I started this year wanting to play a good platformer - something that has great reviews and which I could finish fairly quickly to clear out my backlog. This game has been sitting in my library for almost a decade.

Getting into the specifics, the story sets up your journey in the land of Nibel beautifully. The areas/levels and puzzles are brilliant and thoughtfully designed and the way new abilities are introduced to help you overcome these environments is pure genius. Have to say, the level design and pacing are outstanding. The story is engaging as well. You never really get bored as the progression and ability unlocks are paced in such a way that you remain hooked from start to finish, and even beyond. Some of the escape sequences are incredibly challenging and tense, yet at the same time exceptionally beautiful and well crafted. Completing them is immensely satisfying.

Visually, the game is stunning, and the soundtracks are excellent. It is advised to tweak the in-game brightness and contrast settings a bit, as the default values leaned too much toward the brighter side. Once adjusted, the visuals really popped. The game is also extremely light on system resources.

To conclude my experience of the game I would say Ori and the Blind Forest is one of those perfect platformers. It even gives you a sense of playing an RPG. While the game can be quite challenging, it is also extremely enjoyable and addictive. If you have even a mild interest in platformers, you absolutely have to try this gem.

Great level design, soundtrack, visuals, story is good but simple. Combat system is subpar but the excellent platforming makes up for that.

I tried giving this game a chance but it really wasn't that enjoyable. The main story feels very bland and could've been expanded on so much more. The graphics are BEAUTIFUL to look at but horrible to play, you will get occasionally distracted by the visuals and not realize you're walking into an enemy's attack/environmental hazard. The saving system is weird and makes it to where you can basically almost softlock yourself in certain areas/situations and it just isn't fun. Dying resets all progress up until your last save point and there are a lot of things in this game that can basically one shot you, so the game WANTS you to save 24/7 but you can't save 24/7 bc saving uses a limited resource.

Overall beautiful game, good to look at, not fun to play.
