I am confused about my rep gain (faction standing) from doing contracts
With and without mods, I have flown from planet to planet to do contracts and I cannot see how much rep i gain with my employer and how much rep i loose with my employers enemy from accepting a contract.

Nothing is showing me how much rep i gain or loose.

Yeah the game doesn't tell you...

Battletech let you balance this out and it was needed for black market but mw5 doesn't tell you anything... just try max out rep with anyone fast and only do their quests as its pointless trying to balance

So like pick my favorite employers/faction and stick with them?
Look at the tabs at the top.

Choose (Operations)

Then look for faction standing.

Knowing what there is to be gained helps. All faction rep gives you with vanilla is as follows.

1: You pay more in stores or get a discount & this goes up or down in 5 stages and caps out at around -200/200 rep for being either despised or hero status with any given faction. Rep can climb higher than this but you will not receive or lose any favour beyond this point. Does create a surplus of good will though so can afford to fight against your friendly factions from time to time if want too.

2: More or less negotiation points with the same 5 level stages either direction meaning you get more or less c-bills, salvage, repair or airstrikes for the more rep you gain or lose with any given faction.

That's pretty much it.

As for favourite factions forget that, is meaningless as far as this title goes and may as well be pragmatic here.
By the time you have reached full company Rerputation (15) you will be flying loose in circles around Terra because that's where all the best conflict zones are and will give the best rewards also better equipment will spawn in markets here.
Also around Terra are where the best trade/industrial zones are getting progressively worse the further you travel from the centre of the map.

So knowing this look at the factions that own these trade lanes and will be:davion::kurita::marik::steiner: Pick about 2-3 of these or try for all 4 but may find it hard to get work that way. Also Fedcom will eventually form and from then on:davion:&:steiner: rep will become less valuable and will have to start all over with fedcom rep which is annoying. Something to consider though.
The rest you may as well fight against as they are of no real use to you.

Keep in mind this is just for vanilla and will change with DLC7 with the clan invasion as will add high rep conflict zones and the surrounding trade/industrial zones will prob get a buff too changing this stale dynamic in the northern invasion corridor.

There are mods that can affect this too but that's a whole other subject.

and just in case what you are asking is how much, it goes up by 2 and down by 8 i think. so the one your are working for likes you 2 more points and the one you are against hates you 8 more points.

Maybe it's a difficulty setting but I remember mine generally climbing by +11 give or take a point or two and dropping by -8 for the opposing faction

It's not a difficulty setting, it's a reputation issue because the +2 -8 are the result of taking contracts from conflict zones that are "under level" for your current reputation level... however once you hit max level (and it's extremely easy to do that) even max level will have this issue for conflict zones "MEANT" for max level, so if you don't want to be dealing with that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ just get this and call it a day.

Edit: in fact you can even combine the mod above with this one because why should specific conflict zones be restricted to specific levels, the great houses aren't shamed of getting into fights so open the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up.

https://www.nexusmods.com/mechwarrior5mercenaries/mods/786 This mod from Tepa will spice up the map a lot, read instructions before installing though, Is one extra step. This may also have some downtime once DLC7 drops so expect that and be patient if install.
Paired with this one by ToothlessShark https://www.nexusmods.com/mechwarrior5mercenaries/mods/829
you will have a both a larger map and a lot of user defined options to make the entire map more playable and dynamic.

A side not here but 'More Advanced Starts' also by Tepa https://www.nexusmods.com/mechwarrior5mercenaries/mods/1125
will give you a number of 3015 start points to make more use of that fantastic map. Ideas to consider for a new playthough in the future maybe.

- Comstar
- Magistracy of Canopus
- Taurian Concordat
- Aurigan Coalition
- Oberon Confederation
- Clan

My reps almost maxed out with Kurita from doing the DLC missions for them.

I play with mods though, so it might change the balance a lot.
