do not accept free game trials beta invites even from friends
my friend sent me a free game beta trial in steam for subnautica 2, but lucky i did not click it yet. 5 min later he sent message not to click it as it's a scam and it hacked his account. most links we think should be safe that we get on steam. but these hackers are finding ways. don't use links for games that are not fully vetted by the store. its easy to want to share links with our friends but i think it's best to just let them know the game is available and let them find it..

I see posts of a lot of folks hacked lately and even with 2 part authenticator . that does scare me, i thought that was the best protection. guess not, I hope steam gets on this and finds a fool proof way of protecting our accounts

You can't protect users that are gullible. Steam provides more then enough account security.
Playtests are not sent through chat. They're all phishing links.

Real playtest...

Yeah I got hit with it. I clicked onnit, then it got sent to all my friends GDit. The only thing I noticed about my account after wat that all communications with all my steam friends were manually blocked and I had to manually unblock them for all my friends.
I use my Steam mobile Authenticator with QR Code scanner to sign into Steam on all my devices.

Take the following steps to secure your account:

1. Scan for malware. If you don't have a malware scanner use https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Check that the email and phone number on the Steam account are still yours.
3. Deauthorize all other devices. https://steamhost.cn/twofactor/manage
4. Change passwords from a clean computer.
5. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App. https://steamhost.cn/twofactor/manage
6. Revoke the API key (there should be no key). https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/dev/apikey
