Why doesnt valve moderate their forums?
I dont think it would take more then 3-5 employees to moderate the forums. I dont see why steam cant afford it.

The last time they tried to be wise, they received disciplinary action for it. Hench why they are all cloak and daggers now.
Moderators are busy, they only work on reported threads and posts. They are not in any of the forums reading on free time look for things.
right now, there around 101k games on steam, each having their own forum. (ofc some is more alive than others)
and as you can expect with that amount of forums and posts being made everyday, there are also tons of reports, both valid and false reports.

not to mention people don't work 24/7, and as Pckirk say, they're not just browsing the forums to find things that are breaking the rules, that would take an enormous amount of time and resources to do.

They check posts and threads that are reported only.

When you say disciplinary action, do you mean got attacked by brigading?

Games should be monitored by their devs and steam should have active moderators protecting the steam forums. Im pretty sure steam is the wild west and only people get banned for doing things that a reportable. Otherwise you can sneak by doing whatever you can.

since the forums are still part of steam and hosted by valve. Valve can still be accountable for what is written and posted on the forums.. so they still have to moderate it themself.
They most likely want to shut the main forums down and are building up a 'woe is me' defense for when they do.

They can't even clean the spam from the main Steam discussions.

Why would they need a reason to shut down the forums?

They don't, the forums are there as a courtesy to us, by Steam's choice. They could scrap all social aspects of the platform tomorrow if they wanted. We're paying for games, and the ability to play them, anything further is just a courtesy.

LOL. They'd need twice the number of people they already employ. Just for moderating.
I mean If Valve need some moderators I don't mind moderating MGS forums and such but even the automatic security have some issue. Just see the title of this post:

I'm not saying that moderators aren't there since I have over +50 pages of "thank you for[...]" but sometimes some contents that break rules stay for a long time, of course devellopers should get some moderators to manage their own page.
We already have volunteer users who moderate the forums all day long. No need to waste money on paying someone to do it.
