Steam client - 'Play a random game' button
Hello,

Owner of +300 games on my Steam, I regularly ask myself:
"What game I should play?".

Choice paralysis is a real thing.
A lot of us can feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of games they own (through bundles, etc.).
Especially when we have Steam accounts that are 10+ years old.

A possible easy solution: adding a dedicated button inside the steam client.
__ ___

Play a RANDOM game

‾‾‾ ‾‾‾‾
or
__ __

Play a RANDOM
installed game

‾‾‾ ‾‾‾‾

Pros:
- It's not that hard to add inside the steam UI. It can fit with the current design.
- It provides more chances for small game studios to be noticed by an audience, usually captivated by the same 5 or so games
- You could even add the ability to filter/restrict the randomness ("Play a random FPS", "Play a random RPG", "Play a random RTS", etc.)
- It can be marketed as a feature to help retain long-term Steam account owners that are transitioning on other clients (Origin, Xbox, battle.net, etc.) with the pleasure to rediscover their own library

-> Remember, it's easier to be told what to do, than to choose by yourself :)

Hope this idea echoes with you guys. And some devs add it in the next roadmap.

I remember the old Spring Cleaning events that had a similar randomizer which turned into the Play Next shelf. It was called the Spin Cycle...

Don't bump the thread I linked because support might lock it.

Steamdb calculator has a random option as well...

This was another oldie that I used to recommend to choose random games...

I never heard about Spring Cleaning (or don't recall it)!
It does prove that this kind of feature can be added, as it was done before.

Also, I forgot it in my first post: it can be useful for Big Picture and for Steam Deck users. It will spare them the use of a third party website.

The Steam Labs makes good steps towards quality-of-life features. Maybe they can think about it

And a feature like the Steam Recommender is a good step too, but not enough. It's dedicated to the shop, and it still provides too much choice.
