There's no "bill" if they give one of their own games, though. They don't need to pay themselves.

At least Half-Life was given this year, so that's something.

Such events arent even rare, there are free steam keys everywhere on everyday to find ..

It sounds like a good idea, Epic give away several AAA games a year so there is no reason steam (who is a much more profitable company) couldn’t do the same.
