My internet is dropping from my real speed to 100/100

Hey, so I have had this issue for a while now and the problem is that I have an internet that is I think 800/200 Mbps and sometimes it just randomly drops to 100/100 Mbps for no reason whatsoever. I am usually downloading for like a day or two normally and then suddenly my download and upload speed are stuck at around 100/100 Mbps (I check it in my Ethernet status and also in the network status in windows settings, both show 100 Mbps speed) and even when I force the speed to bude 1 Gbps full duplex, it is still stuck at 100/100 Mbps.

In order to fix the speed back to the original speed again, I have to disconnect my ethernet cable for like a minute and connect it again, I also usually restart my PC after doing that and it's back again to normal speed.

First of all I want to say, my ethernet cable supports up to 1 Gbps speed, I am actually downloading at the moment I am making this post Stellar Blade, I download around 103 MB/s with peak being 103.4 MB/s, my disk usage is at the moment at around 104 MB/s so my cable is fine.

Second of all, I don't think there could be anything wrong with the cable because whenever I disconnect it and connect it again, it starts working fine.

Third of all, I have looked up some videos and also some reddit comments and usually people just say that all they did was set the speed to 1 Gbps full duplex and it worked or that the cable is possibly damaged (which I don't believe is true in my case because it works fine when I unplug it and plug it back in again). I have also tried to update my drivers, but they are up to date.

I can't really figure out what is going on, I have a new internet provider, but it's not the problem either because this all started happening like a month ago and I have a new internet provider since 18.6.2025 (which was 3 days ago).

Do you have any idea what might be going on? is there something in my PC that might possibly limit it whenever this and that happens?

This is a screenshot from speedtest done 2 minutes ago so for now, my speed is fine, but I am sure it will drop again to 100/100 Mbps sooner or later lol.

Sounds like a modem or router problem. Call your isp and see if they can help you troubleshoot it.

I have a new router, like I said I have a new internet provider and we also have their router which I didn't mention, but I have new router too. It was happening with the old router as well, but all this suddenly started like a month ago when I still had the old router too.

So I don't think it's a router problem either because it was happening on 2 different routers.

Okay, I figured out what it is and I don't really know much about it, QoS is disabled on my router. I also set the priority for ethernet so I don't know if that is gonna do something or not.

I wouldn't be so sure that your cable is fine. 1000BASE-T uses all four pairs, while 100BASE-TX only uses pairs 1/2 and 3/6. What you're seeing is exactly what I'd expect with a cable (or jack on the PC) that's almost fine, but has intermittent failures on one of 4/5/7/8. The failure would cause the link to downgrade to 100 Mbps, where it would be stuck until you force the link to be negotiated again (by unplugging the cable or power cycling either end).

Agree, i would bet on that..

You said the windows recognizes the speed at 100mbps on the adapter status, do you know anyone with a cable tester?

I hope that is not the case, I really don't want to replace the cable because the cable is basically going through my whole house lol.

can be cable or switch limiting it

any network gear labeled 'fast' is 100mb/s not gigabit

check the nic connection speed, if its not gigabit or faster thats the problem

I have no idea how am I supposed to check nic connection lol. I see that it's some kind of hardware and I don't have anything like that.

task manager will show it too

performance -> ethernet -> look for link speed

Couldn't really find it in the task manager, but when I enter Ethernet Status in control panel, the speed is 1.0 Gbps.

This is alright, but it already happened twice, that the speed dropped to just 100 Mbps for no reason and I had to unplug the ethernet cable for a minute and plug it back in in order to get the normal speed again.

It might actually be a cable problem like the person above already mentioned, but I am still hoping that it might be just something in my PC that is incorrectly set up, so I am still looking for some more opinions.

then its a damaged cable
or it may be cat3 or lower than cat5e and a longer run
or maybe a damaged end or pinched or cut or something

I would say so. I had a PC that suffered from the same problem and it turned out to be the cable. Buying a new cable solved the problem.
