'pedophile hunting' groups are child abusers by law
Many individuals who present themselves as "predator hunters" or lead "pedophile hunting groups" online are, in reality, engaging in behavior that can be classified as abusive. They often exchange images that they claim depict minors, and while these images may not actually involve real children, by law, such actions are still considered child exploitation. This behavior undermines the very cause they claim to champion.

Do you think they should be treated as criminals?

source:

There were exchanges of photos during conversations [online] and what the law says, when you share a photo, that it is explicit pornographic material and that you claim that it represents a person of age minor, even if it really isn’t, it becomes child pornography,” constable Andrée East told the Canadian Press. "It’s considered as such, even if in truth it doesn’t really represent the body of a minor person."

By all means necessary.

Also PDF hunting groups are dubious at best I mean if they get it wrong (which happens) they can ruin someones life

So they're in trouble for distributing the image the pedophiles already had? That's retarded, and obviously, they were doing it because the Canadian government will not stop pedophile rings. Legally, what's important is the intent of the conveyance, and they weren't showing that stuff for pornographic purposes, they were showing it to expose what is being allowed.

Some amateurs predator catchers only do it for content. A lot of predators get away because they didn’t collaborate with police. They try to be noble but are only in it for selfish reasons.

That is one of the weakest excuses I ever heard. They are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ themselves and trying to make a case for prosecuting those who are hunting them down.

Indeed, I praise those hunters, may they bring consequences to these degenerates.

There was a case in Denmark a while back where a special task force of the police used AI generated pictures of children to lure paedophiles.
When a civilian group did the same, they where charged with distribution of child pornography and the reason where simple.
They where not in any shape or form associated with the police thus making it an act of vigilantism ( the act of preventing, investigating, and punishing perceived offenses and crimes without legal authority )
We have laws for a reason.
We have trained officers to enforce those laws for a reason.
And we have judges, lawyers and the entire legal apparatus to ensure that anyone accused of breaking those laws gets a fair trail.

It is not a perfect system, but it is better than having vigilantes running free to do what they think is best for the community based solely on their feelings and sentiments.

Reminds me of the YouTuber Keemstar who accused an old man for being a predator but it was mistaken identity. It turns out the actual predator was already in jail and basically clowned on an innocent old man for no reason.

Yea my point is you have to be VERY cautious and damn sure who you accuse it can have widespread consequences for that person

Well yeah, it may be better to have actual cops doing it and actual judges putting those in jail. But when police higher ups and judges refuse to do their job ? It look like the lesser evil to me in our situation. Blame corruption instead of those who try to preserve peace on their own, because nobody else even try to.

Or a law maked by actual pedophiles to criminalize those who act against them ...
