Why is this normalized in the USA?
It's f*cked up that they "fire someone at their own discretion" (at will) when a person has a job, like other countries (not USA) deem that sh*t illegal as it's a violation of worker's rights and considered as unfair dismissal in their case (citizens from countries with stricter labor laws than USA can sue companies for that), since they protect worker's rights and ensure job security.

Labor laws are different outside the USA, so the practice of at will employment is banned in other places when American companies have branches outside their own jurisdiction: they have no choice but to adhere to that country's labor laws (including ones that forbid at will) if they want to stay in business over in those countries meaning normal practices from the USA aren't tolerated.

For instance: in Europe, the practice of "At Will" employment is NOT ALLOWED as they need valid or legal grounds in which why an employee is fired, simply just laying them off for no reason won't cut it there. Of course, McDonalds, Amazon and all these big US companies exist in Europe but they have to oblige by their labor laws and give fair wages and can't enforce US rules there.

To them: WORK LIFE BALANCE MATTERS more than "having a ton of money" as it's not worth overworking people to death to make somebody rich, DISPOSABLE INCOME DOES NOT MATTER WHEN YOU ARE WORKING TO DEATH, which is why those countries have strict caps on working hours otherwise they class it as slavery, they prioritize the balance of work and life.

Even in countries that American people consider alongst the lines of: "they're badly paid in this country" (as in they have actual rights on defending workers, no exploitation) caters more on allowing the 'true' freedom (time) such as having time with family, social activities, etc. without juggling work into their personal lives, at least EU allows work life balance despite high tax.

European countries have paid leave (all forms such as vacation, grievance or sick) in which ALL employers legally have to provide towards their employees as it's bound by law in their case. If an employee quits at their own accord, the employer has to give their remaining paycheck (again, they are legally told to do so, due to how their labor laws work in their countries).

Their point is that US employment law sucks.

The peasants don't get to tell their feudal overlords what to do, so how could you have meaningful workers rights in the feudal states of america?

The user simply told the truth, while other countries prefer to invest citizens' taxes in wars and weapons, no health care, skyrocketing public debt and speculation on other countries.
Basically old methods that lead to the collapse of societies.

Becuse workers rights hurt employers
I can see why "At-Will Employment" kinda sucks. Because you can get fired for any reason. It's hard to prove retaliation because you have "the burden of proof".

Yes, I've worked for American companies (last one was NOV[www.nov.com], and they have to follow Norwegian laws.

For example, when you get hired you're on a 3 month trial. During that period, if you quit or get fired, you're entitled to one month of pay, and have to work that period.

After the 3 month trial, the same as above applies, but for 3 months (3 month's pay if you quit or get fired).

Whether you have to work or not in the 1 or 3 month period after quitting or especially getting fired can be negotiated (probably don't want to work in a place where you get fired, nor would the employer want to have you around), but you're entitled to the full payment.
