Favorite Poems?

I'm a huge fan of the works of William Blake. I keep a complete edition as well as a book of selected works to read for travel. Auguries of Innocence, The Tyger, Night, The Human Abstract, and A Poison Tree being some of my favorites of his. I enjoy Jarod K. Anderson's Sentry and Sit with Me. I also enjoy Weep You No More, Sad Fountains by John Dowland as well as Western Wind, an anonymous poem.

I've been wanting to branch out more into different works but I'm just not sure where to start so if anyone has recommendations I'd like to hear them.

No problem! And just my opinion: the optimal approach to experiencing Rime of the Ancient Mariner is doing so alongside viewing the artwork from Gustave Doré. Great story on its own, but they go so well together. I’d argue it’s a story + illustration combo that’s on par with Alvin Schwartz & Stephen Gammell (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark trilogy).

This one is a beautiful poem, it gave me a chuckle at the end "it is a boring song but it works everytime".

I have the Robert Fangles translation and it starts with an introduction covering the translation, what the Iliad is about, Homer himself, and the history surrounding the time such as the Trojan War. I like reading up on such things because it gives me a better understanding of the material.

I's recommend the Robert Fitzgerald version
