hello

replaced my steam friends.js by the one from december you linked us and i as thought , it does not work. The chat client does not even popup with the steam connection error at end of sequence because it's mainly vgui and not cef, at least for my april release.
But nontheless, the big picture mode is still fully functionnal and going back to large mode gave me the same result as before in overlay mode :

We are making progress ,)
At least we know that some steam version are still working (december release) and some still working under big picture mode (april release ).
We can check if webarchive can help us in this case or may be the people with the old steam release can share us their local friends.js as it is working

Don't think, tested it does not work at least with april release. If someone with css and js knowledge want to dig this deeper, i think the solution is on the both files but surelly not with switches ... may be i am wrong but in this case you need to check many dll and the bootstrapper too in order to find a switch that let you use the chat fearture again.

I am still using the april 28 release package 1682708537 since the first day of the steam warning and i am in the same boat as you, the chat in normal mode does not work anymore, my status is offline and my contact list does not load at all and i can't connect to chat..

Nontheless,switching to big picture mode, my status changed to online (verified by using firefox on community forum )and under big picture mode i can chat with friends as i can see all of them and their status.i have send a message to a friend but he is away atm so still need his answer to verify this point.
Playing a game while been online does not update my status with the game i am playing ,big picture or normal one , also verified that using firefox.
So sur, valve changed stuff on backend but still not all , may be link to the recent change in steamwork api v58 and the friends.js that can't parse correctly the data received anymore.

Little correction ;
The status of the game you are playing is showing in the normal mode after you get back to normal and then launch a game.
And more interresting stuff is here xD
i alt tabbed steam to check my status on community using firefox and so i was able to see that i was running a game and i was online but guess what when i alt tabbed again to go back in game xD

i can't directly click on any of my contact to chat or play a game but i can shrink the contact list and add group.. seems more or less "desactivated" despite it's running as the screenshot is showing.
Something need to be change on the clients.css or friends.js and may be we are good again
fully tested chat, working flowless in big picture mode under april release.

i won't remove it, i just verified that it does not appear on my message history as i am mainly active on 2 trashy thread and don't want the clowns playing here see i also post here.
