Tool Error:
The compiled file did not work fully. The error was that the first person model of the katana replacement would not show up. So it was just the arms holding nothing. Animations were fine.

I have found a fix in that I used GUIStudioMDL which uses the ep1\bin\studiomdl.exe to compile the models which made it work.

I have tried looking for an option to set Source SDK ep1\bin\studiomdl.exe as the tool to compile but the only options were the games themselves. I’m pretty sure it’s just the Left 4 Dead 2’s studiomdl that’s the problem.
Thanks for the bug report.

You can set your own "game setup" in Crowbar using the Compile tab's "Set Up Game" button, adding your own "game" that points to Source SDK ep1\bin\studiomdl.exe path.

You will likely find that compiling a model for L4D2 by using a different game's studiomdl has errors somewhere in the game. An error might occur when pounced by a hunter, maybe it works oddly in multiplayer games, the view model doesn't show correctly for all people, or something bizarre like that. There are probably several different reasons that your model did not show at first, but it is very unlikley that it was due to using L4D2's studiomdl. I would suspect Crowbar's decompiled files more than L4D2's studiomdl. It could just be that something was amiss with the animation smd files or something missing or wrong in the qc file.

I'll test decompiling and recompiling the katana view model (without any modification) as soon as I can, just to see if the recompiled model works in-game.

:)
