Zeq, I just used Crowbar to port Portal2 files from the game VPKs into SFM. ALL of my VMTs and VFTs exported and are there, but I found ALL my textures for Portal2 are black and purple.

On investigation I find that MOST of the ported VMTs files are blank (no commands, not even a shader) and are 0kb in size... The ones that do have a KB count are incomplete. (ie this is what was transferred for water_glados_01.vmt (1kb) and found in Materials\nature after the port...

BTW Zeq, I'm starting that guide on Crowbar. It will be focused toward the SFM Community, but I'll be sure to point out the Multi-game flexibility it has throughout the guide. It was also one of the reason I asked about version 53 model support as well.

It matters not to me, Hit boxes are a part of my workflow anyway. SFM depends on them so the model doesn't clip out from the camera while animating. On or off, I still check them anyway.

Just having Crowbar bring them into the qc is good enough for me. But a check box, (like for the define bones option) might be a good idea.

Personally, I prefer them commented out. Which why I responded the way I did. It forces me to make sure my models are complete and will work. lol l

This is where the HLMV comes in to play. After compiling the model take it there and on the renders tab, select hit boxes. If the model auto generates you can inspect what is produced, if not you can uncomment what crowbar produces, recompile and inspect. You can then make changes to the individual hit boxes under the bones tab and generate qc commands for them if you have any to.

Hey Zeq, trying out the VPK extractor in 49.

Downloaded VPKs from mods.tf and used the VPK extractor to pull out the Materials and Models folders. After doing the necessary changes to paths and filename to make them work in SFM, SFM reports the following error when I try to load the models.

Failed to load models/!
Model models/workshop/player/items/medic/das_puffencoaten/das_puffencoaten.mdl not a .MDL format file!

There's something is not quire right in the mdl extraction because when i extract the folders and do the steps using GCFScape, the model works just fine.

I've done this with 2 different models now, same results. SFM reports invalid mdl format on the models extracted using Crowbar, but work fine when extracted using GCFScape.

I was about to do a tut featuring the tool, but putting that on hold until you get back to me.
