I made a little test mutation that allows you to pull objects toward you, and then throw them, WITH YOUR MIND!

It probably won't work on props set up as client side or debris, since the vscripts are run on the server. Not sure if the "force serverside" option helps though. At least it's possible to pick up big things, like cars and dumpsters.

I did some further testing. It seems to only hook the CanPickupObject function if it's there when the mode script first loads. Afterwards it's possible to replace the contents with anything you want. Putting a placeholder function in coop.nut works for me, but it doesn't feel very portable.

I really wanted to use this feature in my campaign, so I hope Valve improves it.

Apparently you also need g_ModeScript::CanPickupObject(object) set up right. I only got it working after overriding CanPickupObject after the mode script has been run (setting it to run on an entity in hammer does not work). Also it only works if there is an actual mode script file, I created one for coop, and it worked.

Mode/mission specific population scripts might be more a versatile option here. At least if custom models plug in directly.

It's the Hscript for the player who will show up as having said the line. Dunno what happens if you pass null or an invalid player.

For director anger you should be able to work around it by spawning a logic_director_query.


I have some things that hasn't worked out in my mutations as well:

Getting the bots working competively has been the big problem. I can get them to run to the safehouse fast, but then they ignore everything else, and won't shoot zombies. I've worked around it partially by alternating bot commands, but they still help players, and wont shoot, or even push them.

I also couldn't find a way to differentiating between SI pounces/grabs and regular attacks, meaning they can claw survivors to death.


Gun hunt
My issues have mainly been with the ammo system. To be able to pick up ammowith .GiveAmmo(), the player has to have the primary weapon selected. This also affects the bots, since they can't pick up ammo, they too get some when a player picks some up. But if they switch to pistols, they'll never get any.

An ther issues is with items that are only available as _spawns, like melee weapons and upgrade boxes. The items disassociate from the entity returned to the spawner, and you can't track or delete them. This mihgt be mitigated with the new give() methods, combined with spawning prop_physics of the items.

What files are you getting the consistency error on? You might still get issues if your campaign has files that override the base game files.

Edit: I tried to test with Helms Deep, but I'm just getting the "Map_LoadModelGuts: Map with no texinfo" whenever I connect to the server.
