Weekly Animation Exercises
I'm thinking of creating a group dedicated to improving and refining an animator's skills, would people be interested in this?

Edit: Ahead of when I planned to release the page, but here it is

yeah, but I thought there was already one... OSFMchallenges

These aren't big exercises, they will mostly be aimed at refreshing people's skills in the 12 principles. OSFMchallenges will still be there
That sounds mighty useful. If you could, throw in a model from the workshop so some of us know how to use them right compared to Valve's models.

Sounds like a plan. I was thinking that it would be awesome to get a list of workshop items that people could use for practice

If I may make some suggestions, you could use some of mine for said practices. That way if anything should happen, I could get feedback and I could fix them up. I'd love to use them for videos, but I feel like they're not ready unless some professional proves me wrong.

I'm down. Let me know if it becomes a thing. Would be really fun.

Sounds like it would be fun! I would love to help in any way I can!

Awesome, there seems to be some interest which is great! I'm designing the logo for the Group and getting everything setup.

What I need is some ideas of where people are struggling animation-wise, what areas would you like to focus on? This is just to get the first exercise started

it really depends on how long you have been animating, but most new users usually are unsure how to move objects into poses they want including cameras. Meanwhile, the advance users need help with changing textures of game material, and making custom particle effects.

Those are just a few I can come up with at the moment, but if there is a tutorial for it on YouTube, obviously someone wanted to know how it was done.

What I plan to do is set up the 'Core exercises' that anyone (beginner to Advanced) can do. These exercises will follow the 12 principles and can be done multiple times.

Once they are done then the more complex methods of materials and particles can be explored

Sounds simular to the strategy that Valve used in their SFM tutorials where you make a project that includes every aspect of SFM into the film. Looks like a plan. :B1:

We are talking strictly about animation first right? I mean if thats the case, anticipation would be a great start because it seems like not alot of people have that principle down quite right. Either that or something with follow through or staging. Let me know if you need anything!! This will be a neat little group.

The group page is ready, but I haven't put it up due to not having a logo. Anyone good at making logos?

What if we put the "Memory Maker" item on the pic, and add "WAE" over it? Just a thought
Maybe you can throw in exercises on what we never learned in official tutorials, like how to speed up sequence animations or replicate hyperspace:
