Discussion about THE thread
Just to let you know, I do keep an eye on this thread, along with the main one. I honestly feel like some of you care way too much about individual posts, more than the purpose of the original thread itself. Almost every post is reported at this point, generally by the same two people (you know who you are), and half of them have no reason to be reported. I keep thinking I've made it clear what does and doesn't belong in the thread, but it seems like if it's not relevant to you in particular, or it doesn't provide the exact information you need, it doesn't belong there. This is what does belong in the thread:

  • Games/DLC/Software at an immediate risk of removal (if it hasn't already been mentioned in a reasonably recent amount of time)
  • Games/DLC/Software that have an announced time limit (reminders allowed if it hasn't already been mentioned in a reasonably recent amount of time)
  • Games/DLC/Software that have a reasonable expectation of immediate removal (DMCA, dev behavior, etc.)
  • Games/DLC/Software that has been recently removed without warning (sources or no sources, the information is still valid), assuming it hasn't already been mentioned.
  • Useful relevant information regarding at risk or removed content (it was always meant to be a discussion thread, not an announcement thread)
  • Relevant questions regarding an at risk or removed game, or follow up information regarding a previous post that contributes to the discussion

To be honest, the only posts that really don't belong in the thread are those comments that are absolutely off topic, thank you and complaint posts.

Regarding bans, the last time I threatened to ban people, the number of posts in the thread dropped significantly for a short while, which is something I wanted to avoid (because some relevant information was also not posted, most likely due to fear of posting something that would be considered as off topic). I don't really want to use bans as a punishment unless absolutely necessary because I do believe that people, even those occasionally posting off topic, can have something useful to say (and most who would be getting bans based on my latest post are those who have posted something relevant and important in the past).

I'd also like to note that a few of you who've posted recently would be banned right now as a result of what I've said earlier if I kept strictly to what I said a couple of weeks ago, even though you're here complaining (including the three above me, WYDRA, sandy, and GraVe), so before you start talking about the way I handle things, consider how I have to take the bigger picture into account before taking action.

In the end, this is a resource post for people who want information about removals on Steam, I do what I can to keep it organized but every person I stop from posting is less information provided. Don't blame the thread and don't blame the moderation, and don't criticize if some of your posts are deleted, there's always a valid reason for it, and if you have a question, you can always ask.

Removed and At Risk Game, DLC, and Software Discussion
Out of all the useless comments that have been posted in the last day or so (and frequently in recent months), this is really the only thing that matters.

Personally, the notifications of limited free games weren't a bother to me, and while the primary focus of this thread is removal announcements, I didn't think it hurt to have a little extra information thrown in from time to time (extra notifications really aren't the end of the world, regardless of how you may feel about them). It's not incredibly frequent, maybe a game or two per week, if that, which wouldn't really amount to much of a problem.

The main issue is the people who find it necessary to comment in the thread about it being a problem, which causes not one, not two, but generally ten or more people to come out and complain about the extra notifications, half the time people who haven't even properly contributed to the thread itself. If you don't see how expanding on a problematic situation (which is already minor at worst) with something significantly worse is really the problem, I'm not sure how I could explain it to you properly.

From now on, please make posts about limited free games in the thread Peace linked above, it should solve at least some of the headaches. Do not reply to this post, we don't need to have any more discussions about it.

This group is already over a decade old, providing information to people who want it, supplied by members of the community. Nobody is being forced to make a post, nobody is being paid, this is all done by people who are taking the time to let other people know about something they may find useful. I already get complaints from people waiting for invites to get accepted (I still get plenty of requests, nearly all of which don't qualify, which just makes things take significantly longer), I get messages about off topic remarks in threads, and I have to see situations like this (threads devolving into chaos, this one nearing 10k comments alone of nearly all useful information), without anyone taking into account what people may be dealing with outside of this small point of the internet (I don't really collect games myself anymore, but I still want to see the group thrive). Please don't argue, please stay calm, and please don't make situations worse.

Our team is thrilled to release this updated version of the game that will include lots of features that we believe you woodlanders will be quite excited for.😉 In preparation for the release of this game, the original three Acts of The Scout are being removed from the Steam store. As a thank-you gift to all of the owners of the original games, we have pushed one final, massive bugfix to the three original games that went live last Friday!

Don't miss out on this fantastic next version of The Scout, and thank you to all our players who were willing to take a chance on this team and buy the original version of the game! We are forever in your debt!
