starmops - "dev" seling several tech demos and free trials as games
> starmops' catalog

The developer also keeps deleting threads pointing his scam, and banning the users posting them....

Example (if it hasn't been deleted by the time oyu check)...

So, I made a post pretty much revealing that NONE of the games this dev made are his.

Reflecting Fate = CryEngine GameSDK Example
Deltaplan Simulator = Unreal 4 Terrain Tech Demo
Singularity Roller = UE4 Rollerball OR CryEngine Rollerball (Based on the GFX Id say UE4 with a few store bought effects)
ZRoll = Unreal 4 Rollerball

This was on the Deltaplan Simulator and Singularity roller disscussions and were deleted. I already reposted them back but I'm also gonna repost it here because everyone should know exactly who they are dealing with.

Report him.

Hi Dwolfy

Thanks for the post.

This individual is actually someone we're currently looking into and is set to possibly get his own post in the coming days, as we have a lot of information regarding the guy, but appreciative of the list of assets, as they were something we were struggling to locate.

There is no thread about this, the developer was brought to us in our Discord server.

PS: Reflecting Fate is also an almost exact copy of "Lex Mortis"

We have the reasoning behind why the games are similar, will publicise it in the coming days when other write ups are finished.

Is it possible to get direct links to those mentioned assets/techdemos? If reporting the games, some direct evidence should be attached for Valve to even pretend they will look at it.
(I am asking because Google just dropped three different things for me for "Cryengine example" and it is a tad difficult to pinpoint which is the one here. I do not mind doing some digging, but I think it is unneeded if someone already uncovered the same thing already. :hexhappy:)

Valve do not take action against games doing this, this is simply what they dub as "fake games" and don't intend to take any action agains tthem being asset flips, only if something else is occuring with the game.

Like if the developer is trying to sue Steam users, making death treats to Gabe or bashing Valve while arguing with them on Twitter. LOL :steammocking:

Suing users wasn't enough, actually Valve stepped in when they tried to use legal methods to extract customer information from them. It would have created a precedence of Valve disclosing information for legal reasons, which could have led to them eventually, for any reason, releasing their business data for a legal case. And they are guarding it more than effing Fort Knox. To my knowledge, they did not disclose this information to the Australian courts, despite the judical system demanding to do so, to this day.

Are the Australian courts still demanding that? I remember Valve was having some legal problems in Australia because of their (previously non existing) refund system, which was partially solved after they decided to finally implement it.

I do not know. Considering they are allowed to do business in Oz, I would hazard that they somehow managed to weasel themselves out of it in the end.
Still, showed the lengths they would go to keep their income data top secret.

At any rate, the part which started this reminds me: do we have some semblance of information (even if it is a reddit thread) on what can constitute bad enough for Valve to take actions against a game/developer/publisher? It could help when people bump into some dirt to determine if it is simply a shady deal or something that should be reported to Valve so they can pretend to take action.
It may be worth a sticky.

AFAIK, devs who got kicked out of Steam either :

- Tried to bring them to court
- Sent death threats to GabeN
- Wrote their own reviews. And even in this case, many managed to not get ban.

There's also devs that employ bots to farm their games for items to place on the community market.

However, making a gazillion "games" under ten different names isn't a bannable offense.
