Dodgy "remake" of Alone in the Dark 1(AITD), infests the store.
so came across this in my discovery queue today:

https://steamhost.cn/app/3189010/The_Mansion_of_The_Macabre/

which has multiple issues as far as I can tell.

Apparently it's a "remake" of the Original Alone in the Dark, and by remake I mean an asset flip - apparently it's AITD , 1 to 1, with some models shoddily swapped out.

this however isn't disclosed anywhere on the game's store pages.

going through the forums, there's some additional snippets of info on the nature of this project: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/app/3189010/discussions/0/6857382246108655700/

so apparently it's started off as a free fan mod, but now the people behind it are both charging for the game and also apparently has a registered copyright(as noted on the bottom of both the Steam store page and GoG store pages) though for the new name I assume(still I doubt this is something they can legally do)...

there's some info floating around that the source-code for AITD was publicly released, but I haven't been able to verify that, the closest I got was a project mentioning reverse engineering the engine, which neither sounds official, nor legal... at any rate, I would imagine if that was the case that it would come with some stipulations like, not using the code for commercial projects or if done so that it would be with wholly original content(but since I couldn't find anything official on that, that as just me speculating).

in conclusion this seems to be at best in poor taste and going against the spirit of the use of free source-code, at worst deceptive and probably not legal.
