Because I'm a FAN of the genre. Asset flips that get pegged by this group are ones that are bought by a "developer" from an asset store and "flipped" without any attempt at editing said assets. A developer reusing their own assets isn't a flipper when they developed said assets themselves. That's like saying all AAA titles that reuse their own assets (and there are many out there) are asset flippers. You're taking the term asset flip WAY too literally.

An asset flip implies reuse, not that it's been bought someplace.

I'm fairly sure Mellow isn't going to cover this series, and it's obvious why. These are not asset flips. Just because the developer uses a similar art style in all their games does not make them asset flips. People like the art style, it's one of the reasons they buy the games.

Saying these are asset flips is like saying all hidden object games are asset flips because they have similar look and gameplay as most others in the genre.

Those are not asset flips...at all. The developer uses a specific art style, but they're all unique games (many having unique mechanics and storytelling) in the Time/Resource Management genre. They pretty much considered some of the best if their kind by fans.

That wasn't the only reason they were removed. Their many sock puppet accounts were a clear attempt to deceive customers. Along with steam key abuses and attempts to alter Steam's algorithms with several "sequels" of the exact same game title released within weeks (sometimes days) of each other, it was screwing things up on Valve's end. Then there were all the coupons for their hundreds of games that were clogging up the crafting system. Crafting badges isn't cheap. It really sucks when you spend good money to craft a bunch and all you get are crappy coupons for Zonitron's games.

They are not the same product. If you managed to actually play any of them you'd understand there's a certain style that most of these games utilize, but they're not the exact same template used over and over with different artwork swapped out. There could be nothing further from the truth.

As for BFG bragging about a new game every day, that's just their sales pitch for their website. The new game every day includes Collector's & Standard Editions of these HOGs (they only bring the Collector's Edition to Steam when applicable) along with all the other casual games they release. So far, the only HOGs they've brought to Steam are those that are well reviewed from respected companies. There are a TON of garbage HOGs out there, but BFG has only been bringing over the better titles.

Where are you getting these copies of their games? It seems like someone who has this kind of relationship to the developer would have a fairly biased opinion.

I buy several bundles to gift off games via my Steam groups. It's a way of supporting the community and the Steam groups I help run. Buying during Happy Hour at IndieGala often gets you several copies of the same bundles. Bundle Stars has also had several HOG bundles that are cheap enough to grab 4-5 copies of to gift away.

You can try to insunate that I've got some "in" with the developers/publishers, but I simply do not.

It's not by the same company, and they're not sock puppets. If you researched, you'd see they're from several different well-known HOG developers, many of which have their own websites.

Okay, just gonna chime in here and say that Big Fish is a publisher, not a developer. They've been slowly bringing over several games they've previously published on their own website to Steam, but definitely not all. Many are very high quality for the genre as well. And for the record, no...they're not all almost the exact same game with new art. There is a noticeable style that is utilized for this genre, but they're in no way made by the same artists or developers, and that includes the UIs. Artifex Mundi is also a publisher, but a much smaller one.

Valve really needs to get the curation overhaul implemented. The promised system for delivering Steam keys through Steam itself would fix a lot of these problems.
