If you havn't made any game yet then you might want to look closer at Unity. They are both actually quite the same but I think Unity is easier to get started and the tutourials are rather aimed at newcommers. However it's been a while since I've touched them both.

And keep in mind that it will be a TON of work to make a good looking 3D game (Normalmapped assets and custom PBR render pipelines etc riquire a lot of knowledge to get right). So keep your concept simple and scaleable. Try to make a minimal version of your game in both engines and see what workflow is better for you. I think they both offer free versions for that.

Thanks for reminding me to update this. Been a while and I'm pretty happy with GameMaker for 2D. (dispite the name)

But I guess I could get some more chat going here about the development side of things, like how to deal with Greenlight for instance...

Oh yeah and practicly I ment that you shoult maybe try to cover up a few of the building transitions with the grass... just sprinkle a few around those sharp edges where your buildings hit the terrain! Don't need to cover it all up, just to break the cuts.

Congratulations First Devlog! Now, I will stalk you when I'm bored! Har! Confuse you when you are insecure and intimidate where I can! Because acrually I don't care! Yet... To keep some honesty around here.

But!
Looks like some solid 3D assets you are bringing in there! Tactical game sounds nice too! Remember some good preconditions to make it challenging and evolve around that!
As artist I'd reccomend to keep an eye out for edges in the levels. Try your best to define the paths natural but sharp. And look at how 3D assets blend into the Ground!

'Helped' is a quite loose definition, don't you think? It can be helpful in many ways. Depends on what you expect by helped?

There are a few different demo types, I'd say. A press demo for example gets you press coverage, a publisher tech-demo can get you a production deal.

A public demo is a tricky one. I've heard all kinds of opinions but to talk for myself, getting my public demo done helped me release some pressure from working in the dark. And helped me get all the small things like Menues and UI far enough to call it a game. You know, getting all the small things done and help shape your project more towards a finished game.

It used to be the only way to get the word out too, back in the days. If shareware rings a bell? As new developer it is also a good proof that you can deliver a product.

In my opinion 'Free to Play' could be seen as a kind of evolved 'demo' too.
