Modding Informations
Hi there,

I'm starting to get my hands in the game's datas. I've already worked on the PSX version so there are a few things I know how to search.

However, I'm not familiar at all with the Steam modding possibilities. It seems that I shouldn't modify the files but rather create a duplicate and do a manipulation to make that duplicate replace the vanilla one. But I don't know what kind of manipulation I need to do... Can someone enlight me about it?

If you want specific informations about FFIX data's structures, I'll be glad to help too.

Thanks in advance.

I mustn't have exprimed myself properly... This isn't a thread for you to suggest mods ; there is another one for that. That's a thread for sharing informations :
1) either on the FF9 binary data structure,
2) either on the Steam patching/modding features.

Please refrain yourself from spreading your wishlist/needlist/whatever-urging-list at every coins of Steam's forums. It'll be easier for us modders to grab helpful informations.

Thank you.

Well pretty much the whole game structure is free to look at. Source code is practicly free to grab.

At the moment I move parts of the FF9 engine to the managed DLL. Now, I can replace text, fonts and backgrounds. I use Mono.Cecil for patch DLL.

Well done ! I'll try that Mono.Cecil API, thanks.
When you say you can replace backgrounds, is that images only or the layout informations as well?
