If you want to connect a playstation controller to your PC to play any game you can use a software called Better DS3. That's what I use. Set it to X-input for your control type and everything should be fine for games that have controler support.

I use ds4 windows and it works just fine I just would like native support so i dont have to use 3rd party controller. Black ops 3 supports ps4 native I just wish it was somthing the mod community could add.

I see, I don't know much about adding native controller support for games. Hope they can help you out.

I hope we'll get a standalone PS button mod and doesn't need that UnX mod.

once we can replace the dds.phyre files, yes.
But at the moment there only is an extractor but not a repacker.
Plex 23 May, 2016 @ 8:05pm
there is a VBF packer now, should be possible now to export textures using the Phyre SDK, replace them and repack the VBF.
textures are gonna stay permanent without the need of UNX.

Seems like a LOT of trouble for something that's going to prevent you from patching the game. Why do people actually want this?
Because some of us grew up playing FF on the playstation and it makes things like auron's overdrive easier to use. Also because many of us use a PS3 or PS4 controller for gaming on PC because it's cheaper than owning multiple controllers and often more reliable than many controllers you can buy unless you want to pay a fairly large amount.(for exmple many games that have problems with controllers I have no trouble with cause I use a DS3) Also it won't prevent patching so much as need to be re-applied after each patch and thats only if files are changed or replaced rather than just added besides which there really isn't a huge need to patch the game after all the bugs are fixed most of the time.

true enough however I don't like having extra(and frankly whether safe or not untrusted) software on my computer for the purpose of modding a single game. I am sure they will find a way of doing it eventually that is patch friendly and doesn't rely on third party programs past the instalation stage. After all they did it with almost every other FF game released on steam so far and some of them werent entirely mod friendly. I think I remember something about Type-0 being a pain to mod for example. That said I can live without this mod I just preffer to use the PS3 icons as I find it easier to asociate them quicker to the buttons I am pressing even if I WAS using an Xbox or windows controller(Using PS3 controller but the point stands)

No no I mean add new files and not overwrite or patch anything. True I don't like third prty programs(I have enough of those already) but many button icon mods only require you to add some extra files to the folder and nothing else. And I have had no trouble ptching any of the previous FF games before or after modding really. There is no certainty that patching the files to add PS3 button icons will screw in any way with patching and updating. FF13 is a good example of that.

ok first that is why anybody who mods is always told to BACKUP your game file before you mod them(prticularly large ones). In fact before you do ANYTHING to do with mods you should make a steam backup of your game so that if anything goes wrong you can delete the files and restore the backup. Also I have to admit I haven't had too close of look at your mod. Just that people left nd right are complaining that you shouldn't need that. Like it makes things needlesly difficult or something. I dunno I will wait for something better to come along for now but I may try it in the future but thats about the bet you gonna get from me on that. No offense meant of course

it's almost like there's more than one type of mod, and that some types of mods work better for certain games than others

crazy, i know
vigilnova666 7 Jun, 2016 @ 6:04pm
Not as crazy as you think. Some types of mods actually patch and change certain files to make something happen. That can be either good or bad depending on the files and what is patched as it may mean you need to re-install the mod after every update. Other mods just add extra files to add features to a game and are relatively safe and update freindly. Most of the mods for final fantasy 8 are of the second type and most if not all of the mods for FF13 are of the first. Because every game is different and the developers use either different game engines to make the game or different compression methods for the files or any number of things really the modding method has to change depending on the game. And though I expect your comment is you being sarcastic(not certain) I like being a smartass so I hope you like my explenation :t0cactuar:
