I think 3 and 4 were just DS roms run like an emulator. Maybe trying to use DS rom hacking tools to open the archives and change the textures is the way to go. I started to work on this yesterday but can't find a reliable way to pin down which file types contain what.

The two routes I could see going are:

The long road - change the sprites by taking the original assets and applying a filter - reloading them back into the archive

The short road - finding a way to mod the way the game filters textures as they are pulled into the game

I think I have seen it mentioned before. I'd assume it's a matter of turning it on... the way Nyxo and Krisan Thyme turned 'off' the filter for V and VI. If the game uses openGL then it's a matter of determining the filter used... and changing it.

I'd be very into this type of mod... although the pixelated look has it's own 'charm'.

X and X-2 were recently revealed in a steamDB leak to have a steam page, and there was a quickly pulled page on SE's website that also referenced a PC version... my guess is they are going to announce it for release soon.

1,2,10,10-2 and 12 seem inevitable now. This was the one I would have called the least likely to ever come to PC.

No actually it isn't, it's the result of 32 (pixels) by 12 (tiles). 640 of course is the result of 32x20.

The game is 20x12 map tiles (aka 5:3 aspect ratio). The black space when choosing 640x480 is added because no one can run anything at 640x384, being that it's not a standard resolution.

Yeah, at 640x480 (or by using the ini to force it to 640x384) you don't have ANY of the various display issues the game had. Beyond that, it's all downhill.

No one seems interested enough to fix this, and I'm not really sure how to do it myself. I'm just noting my observations in the threads to help anyone who does.

Any move beyond that resolution, including even multiples, sets the world and background texture tiles to crush the border pixel and inconsistently stretch the 30 inner pixels. This is defintely part of why there were bad tile seams.

Here's another good example of the kind of distortions this leaves in its wake:
Look at the angle of the roof on the pub:

The angle is distorted, leading to a wavy line, where in the native res its a nice straight line. This was what I had noticed immediately after I applied the no filter patch, and its such an odd distraction.
