The answer depends on if you will utilize the nav mesh.
If you are going to use the nav mesh, then it is possible to get bots to airstrafe.
If you are not going to utilize the nav mesh, then it could be possible to implement primitive airstrafes through mods.
But now that I come to think of it, since these only apply to specific navmeshes, the difference would be nearly insignificant.
I suggest you go forward with this idea. It is a good one to make robots less predictable and more interesting to fight against.
