Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Blackwatch, the most elite military unit in the world.

You are now privy to the following classified information.
Blackwatch was first created to protect America from biological attack.
In 1963, our new virus, known as Blacklight, infected and destroyed the town of Hope, Idaho.
We found and detained only one survivor: Elizabeth Green, or Mother, as we would come to call her.
She was an incubator of the virus. 1970, Blackwatch, along with Gentek, the creators of Blacklight,
were assigned to contain the virus, peacefully, if possible.
Operations continued until 2008 when a Gentek scientist by the
name of Alex Mercer, apparently in a fit of delusional paranoia,
stole a vial of the Blacklight virus, and released it.
We thought the virus had killed him. We were wrong. It transformed Mercer,
giving him superhuman abilities. Mercer fought his way into
Gentek and freed Elizabeth Green, Mother. Soon the outbreak encompassed the whole
of Manhattan. Nothing we did could contain it. We resorted to a
nuclear solution, but Mercer interfered with out objective.
He hijacked the nuke, and destroyed it over the ocean. We
assumed he was dead. Once again, we were wrong. End of initial briefing.

"Hope was a Blackwatch project. The goal of the experiment was to create a viral weapon
that could be used to target specific racial types. But Hope went wrong. A mutated virus infected all of those people -
drove them mad. Their bodies crawled with hell. And at the centre of it all was Elizabeth Greene. Somehow she
had survived, endured the virus, absorbed it, changed it, whatever. Her unique biology inspired this new
bioweapons research program. This became GENTEK -- and Alex Mercer worked for them. There was one leak too many
and Randall stepped in to shut it down. No one was safe. Mercer fled the scene with a sample of the virus.
Took it as insurance if he needed it. Blackwatch cornered him at Penn Station. With his back to the wall, he
unleashed the virus on Manhattan. What Mercer did is beyond forgiveness. But there is no Alex Mercer any more. The virus
didn't just kill him, it became him; copied his body down to the genetic level. It became him. HE IS THE VIRUS.
And he, in turn, released Elizabeth Greene - to infect the city a second time. Now she's dead, but Randall won't
accept that the virus can be stopped. With FIREBREAK he'll level the city - just like Hope. But now Hope has one
final riddle to give up. Greene was pregnant when they found her in '68. What happened to that child?"
