Rep threading on Outpost
Aimed at sneeza really..

Given the sudden closure of the rep threads on Sourceop, have you guys given any thought to a rep style thread via TF2Outpost? I've already seen a few people using cash trades as 'ad hoc' rep threads.. is this now allowed and additionally would you consider allowing a pseudo rep thread for perhaps an additional subscription charge? I'de be more than happy to pay it as would my trading buddies.

  • 1. Where would it be hosted? Steam Discussions are very limited, a subforum can only hold 300 threads. It would be problematic if threads suddenly started vanishing.
  • 2. Can't it be hosted on the site? Sure, TF2Outpost did have a reputation system a while ago which deemed to be pointless and that is why it was replaced by the current heart system.
  • 3. Will traders understand the point of rep threads? If you wanted to cashout or do item trading for money Sourceop was the way to go. TF2Outpost is much more than that and its main focus isn't on real money trading. My guess is that most traders would misuse rep threads by leaving negative feedback for lowballing, not liking an offer, hating on someone etc. which is what happened with the old system and the main reason it was removed.
  • 4. This would bring in a whole lot of issues. Admins would have to deal with fake rep, negative comments, scam attempts, people not understanding rep threads, others trying to build up reputation by scrap banking and using that to earn the trust of others etc.

These are a couple of things to consider. Just my 2 cents.

They had a temporary goof. Not really a big deal. Kind of like what happens to Valve twice a month despite Valve having vastly more manpower and resources.

They have closed down the trading part of the forums permenantly, all the rep threads are gone and they've said they will not be bringing them back.

Awesome, thanks for the link poop. Quite the suprising turnaround, many of their admins had been quite antogonistic and quite frankly, nasty towards trade forum members who expressed their disappointment about the closure
