Reverse sharking (untradable v. luger)

How it works

Basically you get a v. luger and apply untradable items to the killstreak kit set to make it untradable.
It can be done cheap. People offer those for ridiculous prices. You have to post it on many trades so eventually someone falls for this scam

EDIT offcourse he closed his trade and made a new one after people were pointing it out

The v. luger scam, obvious and misused. Yes, I personally have been confronted numerous times with this and something should be done, I agree. Had one from here at outpost just the other day. Post has since been hidden.

Has this been patched? If not then technically it's a scam since anyone can make their own Untradable Lugermorphs.

You can still do it. It works on any weapon, just apply the killstreak, remove it and then make a nice backstory about how rare it is.

Regarding that particular example, he's (deliberately) not actually saying that it's easy to make one now. The offer that people doubted resulted from the standard exploitation of another person's ignorance. http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/19515975 It'd be closer to sharking than scamming, wouldn't it?

He still uses his offer in a new trade, I told him to remove it.

You should have waited till he came online and see what he did (removing c/o or keep a fake c/o). Then more action could be taken

He sold it with a lowtier unusual for a vintage parasite to a unkowing buyer

This was after people told peasant how to make and that it is not special. Since no action was taken he managed to scam

Sharking is not a reportable offensive on steamrep. But on outpost sharking and deceptive trading tactics are bannable. So tf2op admins can only take actions

I came across this trade. http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/19694877 Look at that first offer. That led me to that person's profile page. http://www.tf2outpost.com/user/211982 You can see what he has been up to. In his offer on that first trade, he shows evidence of success.
