Quickbuyers devaluing prices?
This is something I've thinking for a while. Basically I'm trying to sell stuff for backpack.tf prices as do a lot of other sellers, but using search or matches at the site finds just people who want to pay 60 to 80% less. I can understand that people want to pay as little as possible for hats and nothing forces them to follow backpack.tf prices, but this kind of constant lowballing seems to just cause the market to stagnate because sellers want to sell for "correct" prices while buyers want to pay way less, so buyers and sellers never really meet and product doesn't move, and I've seen some adverts that have been up for even a year. I purely fault the buyer for this problem because I think backpack.tf prices should be norm due to it being used almost exclusively at the site, but of course I realize I'm also biased since I'm the seller.

What do you people think of this?

If everyone buys and sells for the same price then there will be no profit.

Buyer traders typically don't pay suggested prices.
If you want bptf price then make a selling trade and wait for an add or trade offer for the amount you want.

TF2 mann conomy isn't stagnate and is constantly growing. Lots of items move back and forth between users everyday.
Backpacl.tf prices tend to be the common amount sellers ask for and you can't expect everyone to trade at solely those prices, those prices aren't written in stone and are changing. They change because people don't always sell for that amount.

@OP

IMHO, the problem is entirely with the greedy buyers. They will come out with all sorts of crap, like, 'I don't pay extra for paint or parts', then go and sell painted/parted items for a lot more than ones without them!

Another example is the card traders who offer you 1 scrap per card, along with the hackneyed, 'Well, it's what everyone else pays for them'.

This is like saying, 'I'm just a rat joining the rat pack'. Mutual rat party. Does NOT make it right though.

My experience with lowballing TF2 item buyers, is that the only use for backpack.tf is to eliminate one redundant round of counter offering i.e. to save them time in you not asking for 'silly' prices. Then they can make their lowball offer at 25% of the backpack.tf price.:)

Of course if you're talking about marketable items, then things are complicated by Steams rip-off 15% selling fee. You have to factor that into account when buying or selling too.
