Outpost's biggest problem nowadays.
The picture says all in a nutshell.

http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/8725/tf2outposttrade.png

1. problem: He isn't buying for the price, he offered in the trade.

2. problem: He isn't buying at all.

I have encountered a lot of similar trades, like this before, and it seems there are getting more and more of these.

Why is it allowed to keep a trade up, that isn't even valid? Why do people post items in the trade that they aren't really want to offer or sell?

In my opinion, this is a real problem. Outpost is basically spammed with false trades.

Well its up to him to take it off auto bump. As for the listing 3 ref while buying at 2.66, yes it hampers searching for exactly the price you want to buy at but as of right now it is not against outpost rules (unless its completely outlandish). I can see how it would be nice for clear concise ads for searching purposes, but but it would take a pretty big overhaul to change everyones current understanding of the system.

Perhaps you could drop a line into the suggestions forum?

Problem 1: Doesn't exist. When using currency, he's simply using refined metal to show that he's paying in ref. Absolutely nothing wrong here, never has been, never will.

Problem 2: Against the rules, report it, you shouldn't keep trades open when not trading the items.

While this is a problem (the trade being up, not the pricing) it is only a problem because they are allowed to keep the trades open. If people would simply report the trades instead of complaining everywhere else about it then it would not be a problem. The Mods can't be expected to look at every trade and will not find all trades where people are not buying unless people report them.

I see your logic here. There are a lot of trades out there, where people put for example one refined or 8 refineds in the offer list, and want to buy different things. That is completely fair in my opinion, but In this case however, this is more complicated. We all know the price "problem" with keys. Everyone wants to sell for 3, and everyone wants to buy for 2.66. The guy has posted exactly 3 refineds into the offer box, and this is very misleading. If there were only one, or 8 refineds in there, I wouldn't have complained, but he has posted exactly the same amount that everyone wants to get, making this trade completely distracting. It is only there to draw attention. Everyone clicks on it thinking, that they can sell their keys for 3 ref, but that is not the case.

My recommendation is to go into settings, and set it to always show notes. Same amount on trades on a page, but you don't have to open a trade to look at notes, thus saving you the annoyance of these trades.
Still, I suppose I can see your point.

Did you ever think that maybe he was buying at 3 ref when he made the trade and as keys fluctuated in value he changed the offer in the notes instead of making a new trade?

No, actually I did not. Even if that was the case, he could have easily close the trade and make another one. This still doesn't explain why the trade is still on, when he isn't even buying...

Problem one is posturising or being manipulative as a form or marketing their trade, if people arnt straight up just simply dont trade with them. Some people may not see this as a problem but if your not being 100% up front then no trade, simple.... its like a guy who put aaa in front of his name in the phone book to be first.

I think it would be helpful if you could do more editing of trades. Prices fluctuate all the time it would be nice if you could add items to a now "open" spot when you sell an item. Same with what you are accepting, keys metal etc, would be nice to also have a heading such as " buying keys at 2.66" . headings could be edited as prices fluctuate. This could be a donator only function. Good incentive to get free loaders to give back

yes should be able to turn off autobumping if they are not buying atm or to freeze the trade.
usually more than half the trades i go through are either missleading, out of stock or not buying atm. and auto bump brings the exact same trades up again whenever i want to buy or sell said items. reallllly annoying. and i agree something should be done about it

Thank you for this. This is the reason I have made this thread, I feel the same way, as you.

Autobumping can be turned off on a per trade basis. If the idiots do not turn it off when they are out of stock then report their trade and a mod will deal with it (by closing it)
