Private profiles and BPs are not allowed on OP and are normally automatically restricted (if you see someone with a Private profile/BP who is not banned, report them and a mod will take care of it. We already discussed how difficult it is to prevent phishing and issues with theories on how to prevent it in the last thread.

I would say its unlikely that unless you put in your steam guard credentials that you'll be hijacked, but anything is possible. monitor your steam guard email for any notifications, and maybe change your passwords. It would be difficult to know exactly what kind of phishing link it was without seeing it. (dont post it here) If it was in an outpost trade and you CONFIRM its a phishing link (misspelled "commonity, steom, etc") then report it.

Be sure to report the post so that mods can purge other posts made by that user. Perhaps it would also be a good idea to reply to the phishing post warning others that it indeed a phishing link, then hiding their post. Just to be on the safe side.

What is being done against phishers on op? i propose...

1. restricting f2p acc functions;
- only premium acc can add, f2p only leave messages
- cant access/ add when not signed in
- f2p players can post links
- the MOST important - dont let them to liquidate
- Increase their operation cost, with other methods

2. ip ban fails as mention on #8
- its suggested a system is being made to blacklist certain sites, but that is still 1 step behind

3. remove scrap.tf as affilates, currently it is easy for scammers to liquidate

1) whether or not a user can add someone is not related to TF2, its a function of steam.
As stated before, it would be imo wrong to discriminate against users with low hours or F2P accounts. Some people just trade and dont play. Most of the time links are harmless and education is a better solution. The SR plug in and other methods are in place to hinder scammers from liquidating, but its not a perfect system and it will (probably) never be. I dont understand what you mean by "operating costs".

2) blacklisting or whitelisting certain keywords or phrases could be possible, however as Regen stated, phishing sites are easily set up then discarded. Of course preventing scammers and phishers will be a step behind. Thats just how the world works.

3) Dont have much knowledge about Scrap.TF, however you mention WH's trust system and am interested in Scrap.TF's methods.

I am sure SR has its ways of tracking IP and has its own methods of tracking Alts, etc. I do believe that Accounts that do log in with the same IP are marked on SR. Its definitely possible to get around an IP ban if i am not mistaken, and in some countries i believe that some service providers have IPs that change with regular frequency. Your example contains a user who is only banned on OP for phishing, NOT marked on SR, though there is 1 pendng case for phishing. (if he was marked then it would be a different story.)

Marked scammers are banned on outpost. It is impossible to have 100% efficiency/accuracy. When i say "If everyone did their part then it would severly hamper and deter those types of users. " I mean in the highest degree IF, as in hypothetical.

My 2 cents. (IMHO)

It isnt so simple as to IP ban everyone who doesnt have a Premium account (plenty of issue there), and obviously its difficult to stop people from masking their true identity over the internet. Banning people based on low hours or premium status is also not an appropriate solution imo as its a form of discrimination. Some people solely trade TF2 items/Dota2/steam inventory without actually playing the game.

In regards to combating phishers, the best defense is just to report them and dont click on anything that you dont know. Having extensions such as noscript and utilizing steam guard, complex and unique passwords, and using common sense usually is (mostly) enough to defeat phishing.

If you do get random adds from marked scammers, dont trade with them. Understandably its a hassle, but its something we all have to live with. If everyone did their part then it would severly hamper and deter those types of users.

And no, TF2OP is meant to provide a place to make fair and good trades, not a liquidating site. TF2OP is closely affiliated with Steam rep and is always combating cases of scamming and phishing.

I also do not believe that Scrap TF is running a "item laundering" site, and unless evidence of such is provided i would be wary of disparaging their name.

There are a few ways to find craft numbers. Go to google and try ... Site:tf2outpost.com craft "#75" . you can also switch tf2outpost for tf2items, etc. Also luigi's hat search has a paid feature that utilizes the API, or if you want i can refer you to someone who has his own search for some sort of fee.
