Traders that buy keys for cheap in metal then sell them for more metal are ruining the tf2 economy
I decided to start this discussions after I saw someone buy at 2.66 then resell at 3.33.

Keys used to be 2.33 and now are up to 3 refined. This only took about a year in trading for traders that trade exclusively in keys for metal to mess up. I saw the practice start happening over the last year or so. People buying keys for 2.33 (when you could still get them for this) and then jacking up the price and reselling them for a profit. Sometimes this amount to only a few scraps in profit for them. This kept going on and on until now that keys are at 3 refined.

We are looking in the future at keys at 4 refined or higher. Already people are selling them for more than 3 refined.

You should care because your metal is losing its buying power. All those hard earned drops and crafted metal netting you less & less.

I understand its a free market. At the same time I know that admins and mods on are various trade sites can control trades in anyway they see fit. I believe its time the mods step in here and stop the practice before we keep going in the hole with these traders that are turning a profit on keys. Identify who are buying keys for cheap and reselling them and warn them or just throw them out.

As traders you have to remain strong. Don't start buying keys at more than 3 refined. Draw the line in the sand.

I understand there are a lot of things that are bought and resold at a profit. Keys should never be one of them. For years keys retained their value at 2.33. A few traders have managed to spoil that for everyone.

Keys rise, it's part of the cycle. Calm down

Keys are always on the rise ever so slightly each month, there was an article i think on tf2finance that did an excellent analysis on key prices. The main reason why keys have risen so much in the past 2 months (imo) was the key scramble during the Halloween "shortage". I think that it is a remnant that has persisted but will eventually stabilize.

Something that i have thought about is how the maximum cost to craft a hat is 3 ref thus in some odd way of thinking i cant explain i dont see keys going over 3 ref at least for a long time.
(idk if it makes sense)

Ill see if i can find the article about the key prices for you. its an interesting read with lots of data. the guys who wrote it put alot of effort into it.

Key resellers just matters when tf.backpack puts keys as 2.88 ref then key resellers sell for 3 ref in outpost, then people are like keys beyng sold at 3 ref in outpost lets make a new price suggestion for 3 refined per key, then people sell normally keys for 3 ref then key resellers sell it for 3.11 and the cycle goes on.

Keys had a small rise due to all the halloween unboxing. However due to the fact that buds are harder and harder to get a hold of and no one having pure buds to buy with, they use keys to the value of a bud. All about supply and demand :)
focusing more on the "in general" reason key prices are rising and WILL continue to rise is because the more players join tf2 and more people farm metal and idle, the more metal is injected into the economy making metal worth less because there is so much of it. do not believe people that say "THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF KEHYS IN TEH ECO@!!!!" there could never be a shortage of keys, just an abundance of metal. sorry buddy, but as long as people keep playing tf2, keys will just keep rising. nothing is going to stop that.
