Why do moderators close..
.."misleading" trades. An example; if a trader post 8 ref and a wishlist of 8 naughty crates. But in the notes it says that the trader is buying for .33 ref each.

As a general rule, you should post the currency you are paying in. For example, posting 8 rec and having 8 naughty crates as a wishlist would be fine, since you are representing what you are paying in.

john lang 24 Dec, 2012 @ 1:19pm
What if a buyer has only 3 ref and posted 3 ref for a wishlist for a key? But the trader really wants to buy a key just for 2.88 ref. Due to the reason that the trader cannot run TF2 or just dosen't want to post 2.88 ref. I posted a trade of 8 ref and 8 naughty crates in one trade. It dosen't mean that I'm doing 1:1, it shows that I have alot of metal to buy naughty crates, I can't show 9 naughty crates or more in one single trade. I do not see how this is misleading when I added a note, if you are to lazy to go in the trade and look in to the notes. Why not just click the shortcut button for notes near the trade's link.

The trade and wishlist do not need to be an exact representation for the trade, where they are not, it should be blatantly obvious. For example, I want to sell a Headcase for 120 keys. I put my headcase in the trade side and a key in my wishlist, it should be obvious that I am not selling for 1 key.

However in your case, you were selling for 1 rec each, yet you posted the offer as 1 ref, had you placed 8 rec in, the trade would not have been closed.

(Also, an interesting note, you can toggle notes to always be shown from the settings menu).

I agree this is a stupid rule that shouldn't be enforced. What's misleading and what's not is a grey area, in fact why not close 90% of the trades on outpost because they're all "misleading" in one way or another. Most people won't trade all the things on the left for all the things on the right.

BTW I think your trade was entirely ok.

I'd be poised to agree with norby, I think some trades are deliberate misrepresentations, E.G. Bills on one side, low tier miscs on the other, buying for regular prices.
But I feel that metal only stands for metal, and should be accepted as a currency, rather than an individual item.

But, regardless of how we feel, we are guests on the site, and must adhere to the local rules, whether we like them or not. And, I suppose in the long run, they may do more harm than good.
john lang 24 Dec, 2012 @ 5:17pm
Can the guest, request for a change? What harm than good, do you mean by that?
john lang 24 Dec, 2012 @ 6:02pm
People have different perspectives, I will see that as 8:1. My point of view can be change if I carefully read the notes.

So, will you call this misleading aswell? http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/7204038 1 ref metal was shown, but not .66 ref. Metal can be smelted and converted into a smaller value if you do not know that.

"Because nobody would look at the have/ want and think 'this man is paying 1 ref and 1 naughty key for 1 naughty crate' (samhudson333's quote)Are you sure that nobody would look at it as paying 1 ref and 1 naughty key for 1 naughty crate? What do you consider "misleading" for having metal for trade. http://www.tf2outpost.com/trade/7203448 Here, have another example, if you are going to just bother looking in the pictures, it will look like he is willing to pay 1.33 ref (or sometimes called "have" for a naughty crate). Well, he has a note saying that he is paying .66 ref for a naughty crate (or sometimes called "want"). Another example: Have: 8 ref Want: 8 Batter helm's (a fiction TF2 Outpost trade). And the note says: "Buying Clean Batter's Helm for 1.33 ref each". Other types of metal was not shown! It dosen't mean that he wants to buy Batter's Helm for 1 ref each and unable to trade another type of metal, it says what he stated in the notes. Buying a Batter's Helm for 1.33 ref each.

If anything, that trade is a lot more "misleading" than anything else. At a first glance, is he paying in metal, keys or both? If he's paying in metal I'd assume he's paying 1 Ref like the trade suggests, but no he's paying 0.66. Why didn't he list that in the first place? Then there's the Naughty Key, if he's not paying 1 Ref + 1 Key or 1 Key for a crate why did he list it? Oh he's paying a Naughty Key for several crates, but I only see 1 crate in the wishlisht. He could have put several to make it less "misleading".

Yet you're still defending him when OP's trade was simple. Have a lot of metal, want many crates. How much she pays is irrevelant cuz nobody would assume she has 8 Ref and wants 8 crates. It's clear as sky she wasn't trying to mislead anyone.

If a craft hat is 1.33 then stop hunting for the one person who sells it for 1 Ref. If you see someone with 1 Ref in the wishlist then don't get mad if they don't sell it for that. Metal is just currency and I shouldn't be forced to represent my items down to the last scrap if I choose not to just because others lack common sense. It's not like I'm trying to deceive anyone. Not only it looks ugly sometimes, but it also takes up space for other items I could put in those slots.

There's already a rule that says you shouldn't offer items you aren't willing to trade and frankly that is enough. Someone offering a Max Head for a craft hat (when in fact he'll only pay 1 Ref) is misleading users, someone who uses currency (keys, metal) to represent what he's paying with and is buying several of the same item, or expects change, is not.

Mind you I don't think either of the trades should be closed but as you can see what's "misleading" and what's not is too subjective. If you're gonna close trades for that, you're gonna have hundreds of angry users wanting an explanation of why you closed their trades and why you left more "misleading" trades alone. Seriously, what's next? Admins banning people for offering below/above backpack.tf price? lol

Just my 2 cents.

It would be nice if the asking price in ref was enterable as numbers, it works this way on some other trading sites. Then no more of this "metal offers" bs ppl do.
john lang 29 Dec, 2012 @ 11:14am
Bumping, hoping for anyone to reply what you think about moderators closing "misleading" trades like mine.

I think misleading should only apply to trades where there's an item not going to be used. Like putting buds, bills, keys, etc and not using them

When you put metal it's like posting in reddit or any forum [H] Lots of Metal or X number Metal [W] Item(s). But with pictures, it's up to traders to realize not to rely on the pictures did numbers and look at notes.

In my trades I put each type of metal so it won't be closed for misleading cause it's happened to me. Some people just don't have the smaller form of the metal and are creating the trade mobile.
Trx 29 Dec, 2012 @ 5:08pm
I think misleading should be punished, hard. You have no idea how infuriating it is when you try to compare multiple pages of trades quickly, opening in new tabs only ones that look promising, only to find out "good deals" were just idiots fishing for trades by deliberately distorting offer. Funny thing people too "lazy" to open TF2 to give accurate metal offer never misrepresent to make offer less appealing, it's always shift in their favor.
