White is actually slightly pink, although black is pure black.

The heximal for a real white is #ffffff and for black #000000

Now A Distinctive Lack of Hue is #141414 and An Extraordinary Abundance of Tinge is #E6E6E6. Even without the heximals it is possible to see that both colors are slightly off – Grey! If you fill a whole page with the same color you will definitely notice the differences. Both colors are on the grey scale between black and white.

As for the paint market... Can you imagine someone buying tons of the supposed white, and the next day a real white is introduced in the game... say in Crate #50? Everyone knows that Valves experiments with these type of things... We see it in the sudden changes of prices - up or down.

It almost certainly won't be a crate 50. Valve have the sense to not put a consumable in a rare crate.
