I hate sharks.
When I'm looking at the trades nowadays, I feel very disappointed. Look, someone is selling a key for SIX refined and someone wants to buy it for only FIVE refined. One wants to buy vintage gunboats for 0.22ref and someone wants to sell them for 1.33ref. One buys a new misc for 1.22 and the other sells it for a KEY.

There has been alot of sharking out there. I don't know if it's right to do that but I'm near with the prices on backpack.tf
If I ask for a price correction, they just flame at me with the "Deal with it" style. Now that's wrong.

So... What do you think about it? Am I right or am I dumb?

I hate sharks too. With all of their eating people and plans to attack. I just watched Sharknado, my guess is they are going to try to form some kind of storm like that so they can eat more people.

I was referring to Gabe Newell's response to "When will be HL2ep3 released?". Teh lulz.

You have your definitions mixed up. Those people aren't sharks, they're merely lowballers. Sharking is persuading someone into trading a valuable item for something that holds way less value. This is done by abusing their lack of trading knowledge. Classic example:

"Hey I got a bunch of hats and miscs and stuff, can I have your Bill's Hat or Buds?"

If someone wants to buy a key for 6 Ref or sell for 5 Ref doesn't mean they are getting sharked. Both parties accepted the deal, it means they're perfectly happy with the trade. There's no abusing here.

Thank you for correcting me norby. I was just shocked that the space between the prices are so large. :jarate:

I don't swim in oceans because of sharks.

Prices fluctuate all the time, it's not really a shocking revelation. It all comes down to supply and demand. That's why there will always be people selling/buying stuff for varying prices.

You have to remember that there are no prices set in stone. What you might call lowballing today could become the average price in a week from now.

Easy way to tell the difference: Sharks have teeth and bite off appendages. Lowballers always throw you the ball too low when playing catch.

Can you really consider one person offering 1 rec for a 2 ref hat sharking? I thought sharking means lying about the price to one user. By the way you mentioned those examples, all I see are examples of the definitions of lowballing and/or highballing :balloonicorn:

Not this thread again.

My definition of sharking: Lying about the value of a trade in order to trick new traders.

Sharking is not making profit, nothing wrong with that.
