Keys/Refined in Posts
The posts basically look like this:
[H] Refined ; Refined ; Key; Key
[W] Random Assortment of Stranges/Hats/etc

When you open the trade for more info, they are asking for the stranges/hats for 1 or 2 rec, etc..

Should these be reported? In the strange market, it's the most ridiculous thing I've seen. Entire pages of people offering Refined/Keys only to open the trades and see that they're actually offering a Reclaimed or 2, even scrap, for the items. Even if 1 of the items have a Refined offer, I'd understand, but blatantly bait and switching people is ridiculous and really needs to stop. It makes the "MATCH" function almost completely unusable. Same goes for other items as well.

What? this makes no sense! If you post 4 keys, 1 ref, 1 rec, and 1 scrap in a trade; it means that is what they have, not what they're buying for.

I rarely reference to memes, but it's necessary here:
Not sure if trolling.[i0.kym-cdn.com]

Following your logic, how am I supposed to buy a Flames El Jefe? That's a 35 bud hat, I can't fit that many buds or maxes or headcases into a trade. No, the boxes only indicate what's available.

Posting 1/2/3 refined in the image, as a "Have" and offering different amounts of refined is fine and understandable.

What I'm talking about is posting refined, a ton of keys, and offering no more than 1 or 2 Reclaimed.

Huge difference.

Not if they're buying multiple items...

Examples

Understandable, seems about right, many items, many prices, some as high as 4 ref.:

Ref? Keys? Oh wait... 2 rec, firm. Bait and switch. Getting an interested party to come "shop at the store" for it's amazing deal, only to realize they were actually offering something else.

If you thought that someone would pay a key for a strange liberty launcher you've got another thing coming. This is not "bait and switch" or whatever you want to call it. This is perfectly fine, and I think you'll find that 99% of Outpost agrees with me.
critter5 11 Nov, 2012 @ 4:29pm
It's evident that you have no intuition trading. No one will pay these prices for those items.

Actually, list price is about a ref. I expected a ref offer somewhere in there.

I wasn't asking you specifically if you agree with me, so feel free to disagree. I, as a fairly new user, think it makes actually finding matches or suitable parties to barter with a bit ridiculous. If you're offering a rec, post a rec. If you're offering a 10 keys, post a key. If you're offering a scrap, you shouldn't post a ref, but by your logic, that is okay.

So if I have one Refined I can't ask for a Strange + change? Or if I change my mind and I don't want to pay 1 Ref anymore because the item fell in price I shouldn't be able to edit my note? I could also be buying several of the same item and I'm just listing the items available for me to pay with.

If you're too lazy to open each trade to check them there's an option that shows notes directly in search results.

If the price/offer changes, I either mark out what has changed or mark the trade as done and make a new one. Do all the posts like this belong to people who were "too lazy" to make a new post?

I know where the notes are, that's not the point. The point is as stated. I shouldn't post a refined in the "Have" section if all I'm offering is a scrap. This is a constant thing, not a single post. What's the point of having separate metals to list if that's not what was intended? Just put a [METAL] symbol into the system and let people decide if they want to look further into the post.

Regardless, I'm done. I asked a question/posed a problem I was having as someone new to the site, feel free to disagree, but it is a ridiculous practice.

Well to answer your question in short, no these trades shouldn't be reported. There's no rule that says that you're supposed to fit in the exact amount you're paying in a trade simply because most of the time you can't. I can see how this can be tiresome but it's just as annoying as people who can't (or refuse to) read a trade's notes.

Actually, as you stated (and I agreed), there are exceptions when the amount is the item shown, but with varying amounts. I can't post 12/20 weapons in the thread as others can't post 35 buds.

Following your own system, you should have used reclaimed metal as a placeholder.

Regardless, TF2OP doesn't work like this, the boxes show what is available, but not the quantities. If you want to buy something for 1.55 ref, you put a single refined in the wishlist and say in the notes that you are buying for 1.55, that's what they exist for.
