Game Pick of the Week: Psychonauts
Go to the bottom for the TL;DR if you don't want to read~

Originally released in 2005, Psychonauts has proven timeless as an enjoyable and unique game. A three-dimensional platformer game with a compelling story line not commonly seen, Psychonauts will keep your interest all the way through. The game play has a nice, relaxed feel along with having a diverse and witty cast of characters. The soundtrack fits perfectly as you progress through; adding greatly to immersing you in the game play.

Razputin, known as Raz, has runaway from his past life to attend Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp in order to fulfill his lifelong dream of one day becoming a Psychonaut. He hopes to rapidly complete the program before his past catches up to him, but in doing so, also stumbles upon some suspicious activity. Follow Raz on his psychic journey as he attempts to unravel the mysteries and earn the title of a Psychonaut.

As you progress through Psychonauts, you will earn new psychic abilities which aide you as you delve into people's minds in order to help them tackle their biggest fears and nightmares. In order to obtain these abilities you will need to rank up by collecting various items throughout the game. This can become tedious at times, especially collecting "figments" which are translucent figures in people's minds and are sometimes not visible depending on the camera angle. There are multiple mind related puns in the game such as these "figments" being "figments of your imagination" which make the game enjoyable if you are a word play enthusiast.

Playing Psychonauts on the keyboard is certainly trickier since the game was originally created for console, but it is doable. The only times this really becomes much of a hindrance to game play is during boss fights. However, it is not a large concern as many bosses inevitably end-up having predictable patterns of attack which you learn to adjust to accordingly. The boss fights are rather stale which is a minor drawback, but does not affect overall enjoyment as traversing through each mind's obstacles is the core part of the game, and highly fulfilling.

As a whole, Psychonauts is a great game which can easily be completed in the span of half a day. However, wandering around and exploring the camp grounds between each mind adventure is a fun time, too, as many cut-scenes can only be found at certain times in certain places. This is especially pertinent if you plan on completing 100% of the game's achievements since many are simply viewing cut-scenes which are only one-time events.

As an additional side note, without giving away the ending, you cannot roam the game freely after completing. There is an auto-save created right before you reach the point of no return, so you can load it and still talk to everyone and pick up any items you missed. However, it is sort of disappointing you cannot run around the camp and talk to everyone after completing the game.

TL;DR: Pros and Cons

Pros:
- Great story line and cut scenes
- New abilities throughout the game
- Diverse and interesting characters
- Soundtrack and levels are well done and compliment each other

Cons:
- Completing 100% is tedious, especially if item is missed
- Keyboard controllers have a learning curve
- Inability to openly roam the camp after completing
