This change won't affect 3/4 of the Outpost population. If you are such a hardcore trader you NEED autobump and 35 trades, you should be using multiple sites anyway. First: I agree with your moral standpoint.

However, think of it from my point of view. I started playing TF2 very "late", and by the time I got into trading, donations weren't being accepted. So just because I was late, I have to pay the $5 a month if I want Premium, where you(general) only paid $1 once and you get to keep your status? Yes, I will admit I would be pretty miffed if I had put in 20+ dollars, but the Outpost team is carrying over the money, and even giving us 3 times what we had donated. That measly $1 is now worth 6 months of Premium. I would be happy we didn't get hung out to dry like I have been before...

No, it isn't perfectly fair. There is no way (legally, and from a business view) that Outpost could make it perfectly fair for everybody. If they keep your ranks, it's BS for the new guys. If they drop your donor status completely, it's not fair for the older players. 3x your money into the new system is about as fair as you can get.

I'm sure many people feel the same. But I am also sure Sneeza didn't purposefully hurt anybody. He isn't sitting in his lair laughing maniacally about causing you pain(he laughs maniacally about cats with balls of string). He is probably more worried about it than anybody else.

Outpost was doing amazing... legal issues(donations) caused them to have to end it.
All donator Privileges are not legally binding at all.

You(person donating) was given "Donor status" of a certain rank. You are still a donor of that rank. Donor just don't have the same privileges as they used to. Now there is a new rank named Premium that has all the good privileges.

I'm sure in the upcoming weeks and months, Outpost will find a solution. Either with other sites, or allowing friends to pay for friends. But it is gonna take some time. It's gonna be a bit of a transition for everybody. Users getting slammed with Premium, Outpost getting slammed with complaints, people asking for refunds, and those who actually are paying.

It will all work out in the end.

The reason they can't accept items (not "official" reason, but I'm 95% sure this is the reason as I had the same problems when I tested/developed Private Servers for games), is because Donations aren't taxable. In the USA, there are many many rules on Donations, one of them along the lines of: the entity receiving the donation must put the donation toward a specific cause. This can cause huge problems when running a business. Another rule on Donations being that they must be "donations". It can't be the entity(Outpost) taking the donations as payment for Donator status. Therefor it can't be "Donations" anymore.

Also, it is hard to tax virtual items.
