The thing is, why would that .exe be downloaded just a minute before you opened your browser again? If OP was to blame, it would've been more likely that it was either downloaded the last time you had OP open (assuming that was more than a few minutes ago) or at the time you opened it again.

I think most would agree that the more likely scenario is that you got the Virus somewhere else. Where and how, we don't know. It may have even got something to do with your browser, but not necessarily with OP.

Our mind tends to see cause-effect relationships really easy when events happen in close proximity to each other, especially if we don't have a better explanation at first.

Would be a real bummer for farmers if the Tux farmed with F2P accounts remained untradable.

Does anyone know if the drops you get while F2P become tradable once you upgrade to premium?
If that is the case and the Tux would remained untradable while F2P but became tradable after upgrading to premium, you'd have to invest 2-3 Keys to just get 1 more Tux into the market.

That's how I would show my middle finger to farmers, if I was Valve.

My guess would be that the 2 databases were out of sync. Depending on the internal structure and the "business logic" of OP, there are a few ways I can think of that may be possible to produce this glitch.

My guess would be that the .exe has nothing to do with OP directly, got into your system some other way and that it was just a coincidence that the virus alert popped up when you activated your browser with OP being the site open.
The virus may have been dormant in your system for some time. Without detailed analysis of your computer it is impossible to tell what really happened.

May I ask what log showed the time the .exe was downloaded. Was is the browser and looked like a "normal" download like if you had clicked it yourself?

Hard to understand what exactly happened. A little more info about the circumstances might help to discover what was going on.

How did you know the .exe came from OP? Did you witness the download, or do you have any idea how that happened? What page did you look at? What browser are you using and was it up-to-date. Do you use any 3rd party OP plugins, like the toolbox?
What are the "strange updates" you mentioned. Do you know what was updated?
Is the problem gone now? Do you know which virus it was? That should be visible in some kind of log you AV Software keeps.

I was using my VirtualBox Ubuntu 12.04 to try and prepare a complete Steam and TF2 install to port to my installed Ubuntu because I thought it was more convenient to have that done in the background. Although the game does not start because of graphics driver issues in VirtualBox, I noticed that I already got the drop.

It seems even trying to start and failing with an error message is enough to get the drop.

Anyway. Upgraded my Linux Machine only to find out I don't have enough diskspace.. sigh

Now I am using a Live-USB Ubuntu on my main computer, only to find out I have the same problem, as adding another Library Folder to Steam does not seem to work (is ignored). I then created a new file system within a file on a Windows partition and mounted that at the place where Steam stores it's Apps.

I am installing TF2 as I write this and am at 20% of the download and the download rate has just dropped from 2.3 MB/s to 150 KB/s :-(
I expect (graphics) driver issues once that's done of course...

Do you know if I need to install the binary driver for my ATI 6950?
