Yeah, then you got kind of screwed. Though I wouldn't blame the guy buying the hat, someone with the hat he was looking for offered to sell it to him at the price he wanted to pay, and he took it. Sure he did have a deal with you, but he hadn't been able to actually contact you to make the trade. While he could have waited, sometimes traders back out maybe he was worried you would sell it to someone else before you were able to make the trade (I'm not saying you would have even if you got a better deal, but I have had people do this to me in the past) so he was just doing what made the most sense for him.

For all you know though the same offer was made via steam chat and not on TF2OP. If the guy was looking specifically for that hat he probably offered to more than one person, I know I do, and if he was in a hurry then he may have added people who were online to get a quick response.

I'm also curious as to how long the offer was there and weather you responed? Was it within a day or two of the offer or a week or two later? If you are waiting too long to take an offer or respond to an offer people might assume you are not interested.

There is "another reason" option. It seems to me if what you are reporting does not fit under any of the listed reasons that would be the logical option to choose. Most normal logical thinking humans do not need everything spelled for them in exact detail.

Question: I see many trades of collectors who have their collection up on the left side in order to prove how dedicated they are to collecting their item(s). I'm curious about this one too. It's not new, but I've reported people for just the thing Jon is describing and nothing is done about the trades.

I wasn't sure if it was because these were exceptions or because the Mods were friends with the persons breaking the rules.

Your correct, that most collectors only care about vintages and maybe nice hats (like TC), and won't bother with craft hats. There probably aren't many people who will pay more, and likely no on that would pay the exaggerated prices you are saying. There are however people who might pay .33-1.00 more depending on the hat and level so why would anyone want to list them at normal price? That would just be asking another person to buy them and then mark up. I usually seek out level collectors or wait until one comes willing to pay a little extra and then offer it for normal price since I know they want it and aren't trying to re-ell it.

Since there are so many other levels out there I don't see why it is such a big deal for you. Why can't you just go to a different trade where the person is not a complete Asshat?
