If you take the time to look at outpost trades that say "I've sold # of keys at 4.33" and cross reference them to the backpack.tf backpack histories you'll see most of those sales are fake (yes I have nothing better to do).

One reason why keys keep going up is because they've become a form of "investment"

You cannot buy craft hats from the store,
keys cost $2.50 at most.

Since most craft hats are valued at 1.33-1.66 when key value (in refined) goes up they lose real money value.

You got that backwards, as the price of a key goes up the value of ref goes down, unless a key is worth less metal or the price of keys goes up (or some weird mix) the value of ref isn't going up because keys can be linked to actual money but ref can't

What people should do is stuff like exploiting the fact that name tags are valued as about $1.10 on average (assuming you buy alot) with a 1.66-2 value, keys average to about $2.23 for 4 ref.

at a value of 1.66 your paying about 66.2 cents per ref by buying tags but a 55 cent value per key on the market squad surplus vouchers seem to give you the most bang for your buck at 72 cent a ref (75 if from mann co. store)

On the other hand things worth multiple keys (such as unusuals, high value hats and some stranges, etc.) are bound to the $2.19-2.5 multiplied by how many keys it is worth
