This game is great if you love large-scale infantry based combat. The weapon mechanics, the team play and the maps make this game great. There is always a different strategy to winning a game depending on the map and your roles dictate how you approach that strategy. The only thing I didn't understand about this game were the tanks. They felt more placebo and served more as an annoyance than providing any meaningful value to determine the outcome of a game. Especially if you've got a guy playing dedicated AT Rifle and know where to aim, you can knock out a tank crew and make it completely useless before it does any real damage to your team.

Rising Storm is a completely different beast of its own. I haven't played much of the Rising Storm expansion solely because the pacific theatre is not my cup of tea. I don't really have any gripes about the units or weapons yet, but from what little I did play, the Japanese are pretty gimped. Historically, yes, they were gimped, but the developers really have to sit down and determine if they want this to be competitive or realism. If they want realism, what is the point of playing the Japenese at all? The outcome of the game is already determined with the US having the flamethrower. The amount of map control you have with a flamethrower is ridiculous. At least with RO2, the Axis and the USSR is pretty balanced and teamwork usually wins the game regardless if the map is more in favor of one team.

So in total, I recommend Red Orchestra 2, not so much Rising Storm.
