Perhaps I'm spoilt by modern gaming, but I honestly do not see how this game garnered positive reviews. Perhaps it's the age, perhaps it's the platform, since this is an Xbox port, but I can't recommend this title to a modern audience.

The graphics aged terribly and the port has a lot of bugs and issues, like framerates getting stuck below 30fps, missing audio, etc. All can be fixed by an externally downloadable patch, which you can find by Googling it, but, retroactively, I'd say it is more trouble than the title is actually worth.

Horror elements fall flat, feeling more like a generic action with reused enemy models and some gore to evoke horror, but with newer titles having given audience some truly horrifying visuals, this is just tame in comparison. The story is also pretty threadbare and the protagonist just feels like a goon plodding forward.

Most of the gameplay, which is sparse considering I finished it in 6 hours, was filled with walking from one point to another, since the sprint gauge empties in about 5 seconds, to get an axe, shovel, etc. in order to open door A or B or C. This is interlaced with frustratingly clunky melee combat, with the enemies sometimes sporting a gun so they can shoot you before you can hit them with the aforementioned shovel or another.

This is definitely a title best left in the nostalgia books.
