Oh Planetside 2, what a unique game. Not only is it one of a kind, but it is also free! Planetside 2 is a more or less open world game in which three factions are fighting for territory. This results in wars at a massive scale, sometimes even 96 vs 96!When you load up the game you create a character and get to choose one of three factions, each with unique benefits. I have currently played mostly New Conglomerate but started off in the Vanu. So I have little to no experience with the Terran Republic, but from what I have seen, they focus on large magazine sizes and more firepower. The NC focus more on shields and lots of shotguns, their other weapons are mostly higher damage weapons with a good bit of recoil to balance it out. I forgot what VS is about for the most part, but I am assuming they are more of a balance between the two. Once you have created your character, then you are taken to a short tutorial that teaches you some pretty standard mechanics, it does not take too long but still important if it is your first time. It is at this point in which I should mention that the starter carbines are all really good, so you might not need to use anything else for a while. However, if you are finding that it does not suit you, and you would like a different weapon but do not know which one, there are a few ways to test them. First, there is the VR training range, which allows you to use anything while in there, however none of the targets move, so the best way to test it is with the trial mechanic. You get to use the weapon for free for a short period of time, however you can not keep trialing weapons, as the trial has a cooldown. So I suggest trying something in the VR range then using your trial if you like it. Anothing important aspect of this game are the vehicles, there are ground and air. Some of the vehicles act as a spawn point for your team as well. Now that you are geared up, it is time for combat. If you open your map, you will see lots of territory with different colors, one representing each faction. The goal of the game is to take lots of territory and start an alert. An alert lasts about 45 minutes, and if the faction controls at least 36% of the map, then they win the continent and a new one opens up. To win an alert, you must take territory. This is done by capturing objectives in a facility which starts a capture timer. Most facilities have spawn points, so be careful of enemy soldiers. Some have SCUs which allow the team to respawn at that facility, if you overload the generators protecting it then you can overload the SCU and stop enemies from spawning at the base (unless they have another spawn method like a vehicle). This is the basic mechanics of territories and I am sure I have forgot lots of stuff, so I would suggest reading other, better reviews. Good luck with this game as it takes some getting used to, but it is truly a one of a kind experience.
