At the time of this review I have played Insurgency for almost 24 hours. While I do not think I am nearly as qualified to write a review as someone who has spent 2000 or so hours, I still would like to attempt to write a decent review. This game is a great game to jump into more realistic games after playing other CQB games like Rainbow Six Siege, Call of Duty, CSGO, or whatever else. The game is also built on the source engine, so the graphical style is refreshingly familiar of CSGO or Garry's Mod. Insurgency started out as a mod for one of the Half Life games and eventually grew so popular that it became a stand-alone game. Day of Infamy, a mod for Insurgency is also now a stand-alone game. Not sure why that is important, but neat nonetheless. The mechanics are simple but make sense. The game takes a bit of getting used to, but after 3 or so hours you can begin to understand most of the mechanics. There is actually a short tutorial, which I did not realize until I had played for about 12 hours. This tutorial can be reached from the singleplayer section of the main menu. Another great part of the game is the workshop. This game has an amazing modding community, there are all kinds of mods, from memes to immersive ones! I started out playing the coop modes, I was too scared to jump into multiplayer and regret waiting so long to try it. It is fast-paced and great fun to play with friends. When getting into the game, the equipment system can be a bit confusing at first, but it is pretty simple. You have supply points, which you can use to buy armor, guns, grenades, and attachments. There are different classes which each have different weapons, like the M249 for the support, and sometimes explosives, such as C4 for the breacher. While this game is not as large scale as something like Squad, that is not such a bad thing, the smaller maps means more CQB action! Overall this game is fun, has a great community, and definitely worth a try, especially if it is on sale.
