EDIT: My hours played does not match actual time played. This game was released on it's own launcher for quite some time before steam. Also note that this game officially has support of a dev team again and many changes are taking place. I haven't had time to go back and try it again, but when I do, I will change this review.

This game gives shame to the name Tribes if you have ever played the original version. Tribes: Ascend focuses on quick play snatch and capture mechanics with very limited ability to defend the flag other than chasing down the enemy constantly, which is very difficult due to the 10 second captures skilled players can do.

In the original "Starsiege: Tribes", any player could set all the defenses with each team having a resource cap on the amount of defences that could be set. In Ascend, each class has their own defence abiliy and only 1 per player. So ASSUMING your team even sets down their defense ability, you have a very very small defense to block the enemy.

Another problem I have is Starseige used to actually make getting the flag difficult by putting them IN buildings with many turns and hallways so a player could not simply fly past it and grab it like in Ascend.

This game falls so short of actually being competitive it's just sad.
