It took me 86 hours to 100% this game including its DLC. If you're a fan of the series, never played GoW before or you have and simply haven't purchased this one yet then you won't be disappointed.

I think the only thing that I preferred the first game over this one was the atmosphere. The first game (particularly in Midgard) was BEAUTIFUL. Obviously, Ragnarok is upon us and it has its affects on the realms. That being said, still cool to see. It was the same game, but still unique in its own right. Everything from the firsst game I believe was expanded upon, improved, or outright brand new.

Would I pay full price for this game again? Absolutely.

Initial Review - Date of Release (4/27/23)

At the time of this review I have played for roughly 6-7 hours. This game (unless I'm insanely lucky) is 100% playable.

Yes, there are the occasional performance hiccups. I see this happen most often when the game switches from a cinematic right into "seamless" game play. The other hiccup I've noticed is my FPS drops to like 15 when looking at the galaxy map . Why? I have no idea but it does.

Beyond that? I run this game at 40-60fps on High-Medium graphical settings at 3440x1440 with a RTX 2080 and I have no complaints. Could it be better? Sure, but the game is absolutely gorgeous and I'm loving what they have done with this game. I also had absolutely zero issues with the install and playing for the first time like some other reviews have mentioned.

Conclusion: Totally worth the play and I don't believe this game deserves the severe negative ratings that it is currently receiving right now. I will update more should things change and/or I beat the game.

Review #1:

I'm going to be completely honest - I didn't even get past the main menu. The compiling shaders was taking so long I didn't make it past 22%. It maxed my CPU usage, continually raised my Memory usage until that was maxed, and VRAM was also hovering about 90%.

I straight up turned it for the fear it would overheat my PC as it started to run HOT - that's the MAIN MENU (specs below for reference).

CPU: i7-10700k
GPU: RTX 2080
Memory: 16GB
GeForce Driver Version: 531.41

I really want to play but... what was this studio doing???

Review #2:

Let me start off by saying that the the performance issues that I had at release of this game were (and still are) unacceptable. It was god awful.
That being said, I finally had a chance to go through and finish this game for the first time, ever. I purposely did not watch the show on HBO because I knew this was right around the corner and I must say it was worth the wait to experience the story here first. It was fun, engaging, and a single-player experience that captures that "want to play" spirit that I lack in most games now days.
The optimization is better from when it released in my PERSONAL experience. I do not believe that is the case for everybody. If you can't put that aside, please wait. I decided to go for it and if all you're looking for is a great single player experience - absolute buy.

Absolutely play it. Between the selection of maps, preset game modes, custom game settings/modes, and having friends to play with it made the experience incredible. Makes for great game nights or for a fun quick game session. Definitely worth it.

Absolutely worth it.

As you can see I've played 27 hours of this game (at time of review) and in that time I've managed to gather all the riddles (with a little bit of help), complete the story on hard, earn ALL medals in challenge mode, completely 100% the game, and get all the Steam achievements. Yes, It's short.

While being a short game this has no shortcomings (keeping in mind this was released many years ago). The story telling is great, voice acting is phenomenal, art design is good even by today's standards, and will provide great entertainment.

Should you buy this? Absolutely.

EDIT: I use to give this a game a thumbs down due to the RTX graphics card inventory issue, but that was fixed so as promised I did change my review... Due to the fix I do definitely recommend getting this game on sale if possible and definitely do find a group to play with.

The Bad:

- Gore? It doesn't exist. You can pop a cartel members head open with a sniper up on a hill and what's the remains? A "blood spot" that looks like someone accidentally spilt food coloring on the kitchen counter... It's really underwhelming.
- Microtransactions that exist for weapons skins that are unobtainable through normal gameplay.
-Repetitiveness exists. If you do nothing out of the ordinary I can see how this would get boring quickly.
-In singleplayer Teammates basically exist for either reviving you and sync-shot.
- Besides dirtbikes, I'm going to give the driving mechanics a "LOL" rating.
- Having to go through Uplay.

The Good:

+ Dirtbikes = re-envisioned Skyrim horse
+ Co-Op can be incredibly fun
+ Overall gameplay is fluid, and relatively easy to use.
+ Holy $%^& is the game BEAUTIFUL. I play at 1440p on Ultra settings and the scenary is absolutely stunning.
+ Stealth gameplay and sneaking around makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop.
+ Customization. Holy crap Batman is the customization awesome. You can customize your character anyway you wish to make you look and feel like a total badass. You can also customize your weapons down to the paint on each part thanks to the cool gunsmith.
+ Did I mention the game is pretty?
+ The map is HUGE. Absolutely massive with diverse scenery across the map. You are NOT allowed to complain about load times in this game (I'm running this on a separate 1TB 7200RPM HDD from the OS and realistically it's not that bad).

Conclusion:

Overall, the game can be fun. Playing by yourself can be underwhelming and sometimes boring, but if you squad up the game can be pretty dang fun. So far I've loved sneaking around, scouting out an enemy base, and slowly picking off enemies to interrogate the target, or flying in a heli at night and parachuting into a hot zone with friends and calling in a mortar from rebel allies. I would pick up the game at a discounted price like I did (I paid roughly $17-$18 from 2018 Winter Sale), and would not pay full price. If you and your friends are looking for a fun new game to play this is the one to play and I do recommend it if you're into tactical third person shooters.

I'm just going to start out by saying; wow.

I first bought this on Xbox One when it originally came out and it was the first game I bought on Steam when I built my new PC and honestly each time playing it through it only gets more fun.

Recommend?: Yes
Play with friends?: If you don't you're missing out on a lot. Do it.

Before I review I want to point out that Techland is still ACTIVE in not just supporting the game, but dropping FREE DLC's as well. They're small, but add to the fun of the game, and at the time of this review are working on DL: Bad Blood... CAN'T WAIT...

REVIEW:

How can you not enjoy walking around in a zombie filled location holding a katana that both electocutes and sets zombies on fire while at the same time slicing their heads off with a clean swing. Overkill? Maybe, but that's not the point. Those night-time pursuits? I'll let you figure that out for yourself... ;)

For what the game is the story is good and I enjoy the voice-acting. The story gets exponentially more fun when played with at least one other as you jump around the map completing missions.

Side missions? They're pretty unfullfilling, and there's a lot of them; however, occasionally you'll come across a weapon blueprint as a weapon reward and you can't help but feel like a kid in a candy store.

Long story short: if you're looking for a game that you can enjoy single-player but quickly jump into a multiplayer game with friends to conquer missions and have a great zombie-filled experience. This is 110% the game for you. My friends and I have spent many hours on this game both on Steam and on Xbox playing this and haven't regretted a single minute. I can truly say it's one of the best gaming experiences I've had in my gaming lifetime. Props to Techland for making me cry for joy, and simultaneously crapping myself while running at nighttime on the hardest difficulty.

10/10

I currently have a little over 25 hours of game time and I must say it was totally worth the price. It's so nostalgic from when I was just a kid, and it's still just as fun!
