Worthless experience
Gimmicky and one note, the interesting atmosphere of Cruelty Squad becomes obsolete less than an hour into the game. In this game that doesn't know if it wants to be an action or stealth game, it becomes a mediocre middleground where enemies kill you as fast as you kill them, making your realistic options either to play it too slow in these giant almost mazelike maps, or go in guns-blazing and dying over and over in an absolutely mind numbing trial-and-error method of approach.

Killing enemies, especially targets, has 0 weight to it - enemies lack any kind of response nor does the game give any kind of engagement, it's just something you do to proceed to the next level. I feel no success or satisfaction pulling off a feature that should be obligatory for any shooter game, so this alone is such a disappointment. The designs of guns don't look anything remarkable, and the sound effects give no personality to them either. How could an FPS game let its core feature be so bland?

And regrettably, there's no question about it, the music is forgettable. It might add just a bit to the "weird" atmosphere the game has going for it, but that's all there is to it. It does not give you any feelings of what you are up against, like in old Doom games, where the metal MIDI is full of colorful heavy and high rhyme that really establishes this idea of being a warrior in the face of a demonic horde. It's sad to see an FPS game have such lackluster care for the OST

This game is there for those that have overly enthusiastic needs to relive childhood trauma of glitched out buggy PS1 games, but to call it an overall fun game let alone a must play is such a misleading comment.... don't romanticize meme games like this please

It's like playing Cry of Fear for one hour and stopping then talking about how it's an "unremarkable game about an edgy sad emo kid who runs around in Sweden", it's missing EVERYTHING about it, you just saw an opening... You didn't see any nuance, or how the game evolves, or the future levels, tools, music, setting, anything. You just experienced an opening and judged the whole game on it. At least pirate it and play it then. Also, I don't own it myself because I live in a fucking third world country and didn't have money to buy it with.

Steam gives me 2 hours maximum to decide if a game is worth keeping in my library. With everything I said in this comment and my review, I am not giving this lousy game the gamble of deciding its price is worth it after the most unimpressive first impression I have ever felt. I don't exactly wonder why you don't own it yourself

Your "immersive sim" genre means nothing if the different approaches you can take aren't interesting or add anything unique in their own right. Taking a loud or stealthy approach slightly differently is so uninspired and makes me feel nothing. No amount of playstyles or methods are interesting to bother with if they don't change anything significant about the objectives or events or outcomes as they do in games like Hitman or Payday, especially because the game's response to combat is so mediocre by default which already weighs everything down

And don't make me laugh about the music... it's directionless drivel that brings out no feelings to what you do in-game which is downright sinful. My comments on music has 0 to do with listening to it outside the game so I don't get why you went on about listening to it on YT.

I didn't even go into music, CS has some of the most memorable and fantastically insane tracks I've heard in any video-game. Hearing them on YouTube or via a friend playing isn't enough. You have to actually experience it in-game yourself to properly vibe with some of them. Apartment Atrocity, Casino Catastrophe, Office, Miner's Miracle and Neuron Activator live in my head rent free since I played the game. It doesn't show on Steam since I don't own the game myself, but I have 40h on it and I still feel like I didn't probably play everything it has to offer. Second-hand experience isn't enough to review music. Just hearing Pharmakokinetiks and at best Paradise in-game yourself isn't either.
