Game is exactly how it looks, can't wait for future updates (hopefully a lobby that you can actually explore)

One of the less interesting RPG maker games you can play. Feels like a game that desperately needs a remake. Like, there's obviously a unique artstyle and gimmick in mind with the game and its story, but the creativity just doesn't match the quality of the game.

The battles eventually become unnecessary because you get to a point midway in the game where you would need to fight 14 random encounter battles to get enough exp to level up. You have to be constantly healing yourself because there's no checkpoint or object in the game that restores all of your health. Almost every area is full of reused assets. The soundtrack is just straight up garbage. There are also quite a number of oversights (glitches) that I found just by playing the game regularly.

So basically it's OFF-inspired but somehow worse despite being released 8 years after? I wouldn't really recommend this game unless your ultimate goal is to easily grind Steam achievements or to play the sequel

“You’d have these conversations where you’d be sitting in a design review and somebody’d say ‘that’s not realistic.’ And you’re like, ‘okay, what does that have – like, explain to me why that’s interesting.’ Because in the real world, I have to write up lists of stuff I have to go to the grocery store to buy. I have never thought to myself that realism is fun. I go play games to have fun.” - Gabe Newell

You likely stumbled upon this game because you enjoyed LIMBO and wanted to experience something similar to it. Of course most of the people who reviewed this game would say enjoying LIMBO means you'll enjoy this game. I personally thought that this game didn't really keep any of the fun aspects from LIMBO.

For one, it's not scary (at least until the very end). Most of the appeal from LIMBO for me was fear of the unknown, yet you were empowered by the necessity to navigate the world to escape. For INSIDE, everything is quite understandable (maybe the story isn't understandable, but you at least know immediately how to navigate each area because nothing is hidden from you / is out of your reach). Likewise, there's no rush for you at all, nor is there a sense of duty because you don't understand why you need to be jumping and running across all of these places.

Because of this lack of fear and exploration aspect (in the main story), the game ultimately becomes a test of your patience given how slow it is. Take 1 minute to walk to the right. Oops you can't go there, so the only direction you can go is left. Take 1 minute to walk to the left. Drag the thing you need 1 minute to the right in order to progress (which is probably just a boring box). Repeat this for like 60 more chapters in the game. At least when I backtracked in LIMBO it was so that I could kill a giant spider or dodge a saw blade.

It also sucks that the death animations are quite long, so the time just continues to pile up if you don't do things perfectly. I like to see all of the unique deaths in a horror game, but I stopped doing that for this one because the deaths are also not that interesting to watch.

I want to reiterate that I'm not complaining about the game's difficulty or puzzles, but rather the game's lack of power vested in the player to speed things up. LIMBO on average takes 3.5 hours to beat, the WR speedrun is 35:15 minutes, a 600% difference. INSIDE on average also takes 3.5 hours to beat, the WR speedrun is 59:58 minutes, a 350% difference.

From an art/narrative perspective it's not a bad game. From a gameplay perspective it kinda is

Things I like about this remaster:
-The new UI is better, especially how much easier it is to understand the battle system
-Battles are more challenging
-Death sprites

Things I don’t like about this remaster:
-The soundtrack and audio is significantly less atmospheric and noticeable than it was in the original game (overall it’s less jarring and less fit for the horror genre. The Post Office is the biggest victim of this).
Plus it’s the little things, like how there’s no longer a sound effect when the enemies die, how Dedan’s voice isn’t scary or aggressive anymore, how the meat squishing noises sound like gunshots for some reason, the fact that you don’t even need sound to navigate Dedan’s labyrinth anymore. The symphonic aspect of this game now feels like an afterthought
-The Flee button being the very first button during battle

Overall even though it's just a demo the remaster doesn’t improve that heavily from the original and there’s a lack of new content so I’d still recommend playing the original

It's a nice game to waste time on. I wish they had perk points for buying things

The visual aspect is amazing. Gameplay-wise I wouldn't recommend it if you have high standards (e.g. if you've played numerous other multiplayer games in the past and are looking for something brand new) since it doesn't really become unique or entertaining until the last fourth of the game. And story-wise it pales in comparison to Hazelight's other games. The dialogue is also really generic all around. But again, it's a good game to play if your standards aren't that high.

Also take a shot every time there's a sliding section

Game isn't fun as the Rake, game isn't fun as a survivor, what's the point?
