One of the greatest strategy-rpg's out there - yet with the base cost of a MMO.
Funny I mentioned MMO's. The way I look at it, it is kinda like a yearly subscription to my favourite game to keep it getting updated. And like most mmo players, I have no problem with that. I get just as many hours in the game as a (casual) wow player might get, and I still pay less or maybe just as much as he has during his monthly fees over the years.

The only problem I see with this dlc strategy is that new players have to pay a tremendous sum of money in a much shorter time span than we early players did. We could just remove a few bucks from our accounts every 5 months. That's why, if you're a new player. Buy the vanilla and maybe a few dlc's (a quick search on google and you'll find a forum with old players telling you the best suited ones for you, and yeah, a few are of questionable quality), there are often sales at 75%. Take your time. Bying them all at once might overwhelm you with content.

Many people say the base game is bad, but a lot of us got a lot of hours just in the vanilla version of the game, meaning that the base game itself is also good, if lacking. Just because it has reached a new standard, and we can't go back to what it used to be, doesn't mean it ain't good. Like some wise, yet slightly pessimistic guy said: "It's worse to gain something only to lose it, than never having it at all", and that is exactly what CK2 with all its dlc's is to us old players.
