Poorly optimized, bad devs, and toxic community.

You probably shouldn't buy, and if you do, dont buy any microtransactions. Only really fun if your friends play, and even then its 6/10 at best.

Very good game about sneaking onto spaceships, finding and grinding (briefly) for cool gadgets, pausing time to work out puzzle-like solutions to sticky situations, and throwing people...rescue targets...bullets...grenades...and occasionally yourself...through glass and into the cold vacuum of space.

9/10, with the last point reserved until Tom gives it some sort of moddability or workshop functionality because it would greatly benefit from community mods.

Very pretty game, very boring mechanics. Overall too interested in trying to be realistic. The controls all feel like you're steering a drunk person or drunk horse, and theres so much forced tedious stuff that you otherwise would expect a mod to include only because someone over-obsesses about that.

Good game, but poor implementation and consideration for how the actual gameplay actually feels. Every turn I see something that makes me feel "is the time I'm spending doing X actually fun?" and a concerning chunk of the time the answer is no. Its kind of sad a literal modded trainer is one of the more useful tools. Things like teleporting your horse to you when a quest specifically leaves you without one to walk back for literally no reason. Miles. The wanted system is annoying and defies the in-world logic of what would happen too.

Overall impressed with visuals and the map, but largely disappointed in the gameplay.

Theres about 40% good story and interesting universe, but the remaining 60% is needlessly repetitive and quicky becomes extremely boring.

If not for the abilities, that are very good, the only thing to do in this game would be:

-Go to a place (almost all of which are identically dull)
-Arena fight with progressively more bullet spongy enemies or one enemy thats unnecessarily bullet spongy.
-Leave to new place after dripfeed of dialogue

Thats it. Thats the whole game.

Every good and interesting thing in this game is gated. Either gated by a grind that actually manages to use up all the fun of trying out new things, or gated by time that is arbitrarily long. Also unnecessarily "tough" enemies that only scale in the amount of your time it takes to kill them, or the amount of time it takes to make the gimmick build that does it quicker.

The actual systems involved are fun. But it is a good thing stretched to the point of boring existential dread. And its a design choice that causes this. It is the fault of the devs.

EDIT:
I should also mention the community. Ive not had any personal bad experience with it, but the reddit community are insufferable, and the unofficial warframe community discord is full of not only dumb children, but snarky, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ staff members, some of which have and continue to arbitrarily bully members and engage in rampant favoritism. The warframe community has a lot of trash that needs to be taken out.

Good map.
Good tools and gear options.
Good music and character development.
Even a pretty good sense of exploration despite a very similar theme throughout the whole game.

The BS section:

Its BS that you can only have your hood on in "sneak" mode.
Its BS that your character bumbles around when you attempt to do very precise movements.
Its BS that some of the mission objectives are poorly designed and require overly-precise ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, considering the point above.
Its BS that Ubisoft gives you a button to purchace in game currency.
There is a BS leveling system that does nothing but pigeonhole area progression.
The actual combat (not ambushing or assassinating) is repetitive and boring as hell.

TLDR: Its worth a play, but wait for it on sale by a good amount.

Concept is great, but the devs are lazy, theres a handful of junk thats basically ruining otherwise fun gameplay, and the community veterans are either well aware of it or act like rabbid redditors when you try to point out the flaws.

Good idea, pity it wasnt used to make a /really/ good game.

Also a concerning amount of veterans are trump supporters.

There's quite a few good additions here in the DLC. There's a good chunk of things I don't like though, and not just growing pains from new changes...I'm talking genuine disappointment and/or seemingly not-well-thought-out stuff:
___________

- Serious performance issues that still have not been addressed.

- A good handful of items were clearly lifted/copied concepts from the ror2 modding community (see Starstorm 2 and Cloudburst). And no, people were not asked or given credit.

- Speaking of taking ideas from modders, the Starstorm mod has had "Nemesis Commando" since the original ror1 mod. Cool..

- There's a game-breaking momentum bug that arbitrarily throws players sideways, and can absolutely contribute to killing them. You can also be softlocked if it decides to happen to you on-loop.

- Vending machine use item is simply, unobtainably, locked.

- Railgunners Alternate Utility and Special are simply downgrades from the normal abilities. Alt Utility removes the characters only mobility skill, and alternate special is simply a damage downgrade at no particularly meaningful benefit.

- The new unlockable void fiend has poor kit dynamics. They have a meter system that becomes necessary to do serious damage, but healing actively lowers the meter. The system, in the late portion of the game, can keep you from using the ability at all due to item accumulation if you have enough healing. You can take your own heath to extend the meter-form as well, but thanks to the item accumulation in the game, you can absolutely get into scenarios where you can accidentally sap your own life due to the meter form switching back and forth rapidly, as in the form you take your health, and out you heal. Its simply a kit that's not very well thought out. If you like it then good for you.

- Void Fiends third ability is also a poorly-implemented mobility skill. You move upward, and almost consistently take fall damage unless you use it while going up a slope or attempting to scale a wall. Huntress, merc, and even regular commando have better-usable mobility skills.

- Void fields were objectively more abusable before now, but now the outside area deals %HP damage, and it's become unfun, and remains as boring as it was before. This is nothing but a net loss.

- Railgunners SMG does not prioritize enemies you aim at, to the point where the HUD reticle honestly doesn't even need to exist. Seriously, I can hit enemies with it that are off screen. It would be nice to have an alt that simply took away its tracking and had it fire forwards. The current alt is at least balanced and focused on raw DPS.

- Railgunner's Mine deals zero actual damage. Sure the mobility you can use with it is nice, but its a MINE. The LANDMINE doesnt deal damage. As a balancing measure, id even be cool if it damaged railgunner when close to it.

- The new Pests suck. This seems to be an attempt to exclusively add artificial difficulty through making the player deal with mainly rats that are faster than them, and flying goobers that seemingly spawn out of thin air whenever the player moves to a new area for a moment to breath. They are simply unfun.

_______________

So ultimately, while I don't regret buying the DLC, Hopoo is giving me strong vibes that are no better than a random Mod development team. The only difference is they have the keys to the kingdom. The DLC feels as if it was not playtested at all whatsoever, and that Hopoo don't seem to bother to play real runs (such as looping a single time or more, and then fighting mithrix, etc). to test the items, survivors, and how they screw with eachother.

For those of you interested, I do recommend checking out the ror2 modding scene. Theres a lot of good mods for items and survivors, but also simply QoL changes such as the photomode mod, BetterUI, and similar types of mods. As of now I would give modders time to fix their mods since new releases usually break them. Just check out thunderstore . io for mods and their info.

Leaving the introduction part of the map and hearing the music after the title card is reason enough to play this game.
